It's terrific!!!
Never have dislike it!!! I use to belong to the "SCA" ( reenactment of medieval times) which camping was in need!! This little guy is my best friend for setting up my humble tent home for the events!!! Hook is ideal for taking out the stakes etc!!! When home I've used it to set in bricks, stakes for solar lights, actually anything that requires pounding, I'm 85 now and still use it!!! This one is a little fancier then my original one which was recently stolen!!!

You'll be surprised how much you like this.
I've been using these for at least the last ten years, and they're super handy. Getting your tent stakes into the ground is one thing - and can be accomplished in a number of ways (a hammer, a piece of firewood, your shoe), but I find these mallets work better. And if you've camped with any frequency you've likely realized that pulling up your tent stakes can sometimes be no easy task. Because of the loop, this mallet makes quick work of it, and you'll be happy you have it. I made the mistake of leaving one of these hanging outside over winter, and the rubber head started chipping off somewhat easily while driving stakes the following spring. I'd advise you store it where it's free from the elements (at least rain/snow).

Sturdy and love the hook
Love that it has the hook. The hook really comes in handy with pull or twisting the stakes out of the ground.

Rubber mallets...everyone needs one
Until i lost my mallet, i didn’t realize how many things that i used it for beyond my tent stakes. Basically, anything that needs the force of an impact but could also break if done with a hammer. I had to order this one to help open a bypass valve in my water line. No way would i have wanted to use a hammer on that. And now i have finally replaced the mallet that i lost in my recent move.

Standard mallet, smaller wooden handle
Standard mallet with decent weighted head. Wooden handle is thinner than most you find in box store and may be better suited for women’s hands. Handle is not as sturdy as other mallets I’ve owned.

Heavy duty mallet, works really well. The peg hook could be better.
This mallet held up pretty well to a LOT of hammering pegs into hard ground over a multi-day camping trip. It was really a life-saver as it would have been really difficult to push pegs into the dry baked ground where we camped. The mallet also held up well when we used it to splinter firewood using it to hammer down a hatchet to split really tough logs of pine firewood. The rubber showed some signs of wear and tear but overall it held up.The peg hook on the other hand is only good for soft ground, it's not heavy duty enough to pull up pegs from hard ground and pulled out of the wooden handle and also got misshapen after the first few attempts. However, this is a mallet that I would still purchase again, and like other reviewers suggested, it's a good idea to hammer in a better hook into the other end.
