Pretty Dangerous Ideas From The Translator In This Book.
Ther are several issues issues with this book, 1st the author claims that Imam Al Bayhaqi was a "early Ashari", when in fact Imam Al Bayhaqi never ascribed such a thing to himself and quite contrary was vehemently opposed to kalam. The 2nd error of the translator is his attempting to lead readers to beleive that Imam Al Bayhaqi was somehow "presumptive" by not allowing other "interpretations" for "his hands" i.e. Allah's hands when Allah mentions that he (Allah) created with "his hands". The issue here is that The Prophet Muhammad SAW nor his Companions ever understood "his hands" to mean anything but " his hands" i.e. Allah's hands period. They never had philosophical debates about this subject and understood it as just what Allah ascribed to himself. The how of the hands i.e. what they look like, do they have fingers etc. is not for us to ask nor delve into for as doing so is an innovation (bidah). When there are clear texts and no existing precedent ascribing presumptiveness to a giant like Imam Al Bayhaqi who adhered to the Sunnah of the Prophet and the rightly guided Kulafa on this issue is borderline egregious. This book will be returned due to the corrupt ideas of the translator which have no foundation in what Muhammad Sallalahu WasSalam and his Companions where upon in their day. That is clear as day.
