There are comments flying around online about these QLC SSDs being poor performers etc. Whilst this may have been true for early QLC models like the 860 series, the 870 has Turbo Write and performance is as good as the best of SATA 6 SSDs out there. I had an Intel 730 series 480GB which was 6 years old and didn't use over provisioning at all, that still had over r90% health with over 250TB written to it in 6 years. I have no doubt the Samsung 870 8TB will outlast that, with a 2880 TBW, no normal user is going to reach that write rate this side of 10 years. As for performance, well over 500MB/s read and write, bang on for a SATA 6 SSD. It's expensive... but for a reason. Nothing else in this class competes, and the 8TB Sabrents etc that exist are considerably more expensive. My usage is as a storage drive for documents and media, mainly photography related and Lightroom does load my RAW files quicker than with the 4TB HDD I had before, as you'd expect. I have filled it with 3.6TB of data and performance remains exactly as shown in the screenshots. Remember to enable over provisioning at the recommended 10%, this will prolong the life of the SSD further and help improve performance. RAPID mode is not necessary unless you have more than 16GB of system RAM as it can allocate up to 25% of RAM in order to speed up frequent file access, but note that you could lose those RAM cached files if you lose power before the RAM cache has written to the SSD so keep that in mind.

I am assuming if you are reading this, you are thinking in purchasing this SD drive. I wish I would have purchased this one before. In order to describe this imagine you are used to drive an old Ford Fiesta and a friend of you is coming with a new BMW latest model in the market. The performance of my laptop is great now. Installation was easy, of course can you open a laptop? my background is electronics therefore do not attempt to do things you shouldn't do. The worst scenario is that you damage your laptop. I am assuming you are ok with that. In my case as you open the laptop you can replace the SD Hard drive on the right hand side. It is lighter than the original Hard drive and fit perfectly. You must take care of the connector and avoid pulling things in a bad way! Honestly the installation of the SD Hard Drive is quite straight forward, easier than replacing the Ram, in my HP you must remove the mother board to do that because seats behind and unfortunately in this model it is not accessible through the back like in some other laptops. Assuming that you are ok with all this you must have know some knowledge of how to move your Windows version from your existing HD to the new SD Hard drive. If you don't know how to do that I will recommend you to get a friend or take it to the shop. Last thing you want is to pay another license and lose all your stuff. Definitely make a backup in your cloud, external disk and take it easy but I can tell you that with this SD Samsung 870 QVO 1 TB SATA 2.5 you will be happy or at least I am. Alternatively you can buy a new Laptop "HP 15s-fq2016na Laptop - Core™ i5" pay 580 pounds *as today 27/08/21 for 512 GB SSD storage (this is half of the storage).

My laptop (3 years old Pentium 2 core, 4GB RAM, 1 TB HDD Acer aspire es1-571-p1vn) was disappointingly slow from day one. As it got older and more programs and updates installed it got painfully slow. Although I use an android tablet for most things nowadays, I still need a windows platform PC laptop for some things like editing my website. After reading reviews about the difference increasing memory and changing HDD storage to SSD can make i decided to do the same. So glad I did, the difference is like night and day. I first just upgraded the RAM from 4GB to 16GB which although improved the speed and range of usable programs it still had painfully slow start-up times and usability. The RAM installation was a bit of a pain having to strip down the laptop and remove the motherboard to insert the memory boards to the underside. The SSD drive installation however was quite easy. After cloning the HDD drive to the new SSD all that was needed was to remove all the screws on the base of the laptop, lift the keyboard sufficiently and slightly move to the side without needing to remove its cables and wedge up with a none conductive pack. Then just remove the retaining screw on the bracket on the back end of the drive. Slide the drive away from the motherboard to unplug it, easy. Swap the securing bracket from old drive to the new, slide in new drive and screw in the retaining screw to bracket. Clip the keyboard back on, shut laptop and put the screws back in the bass of laptop and your done. When booting you are prompted to select the new drive as boot drive and that's the installation done. The cloning software downloaded free from samsung.com was easy to use and it took a couple of hours to copy 250GB from my old HDD to the new SSD using usb3. Extremely pleased with better than new laptop. Cheap laptop now performs like a high end. Bootup, logged in and start using in about 25 seconds now as apposed to 9 minutes. Much quieter with no HDD as well. I should think battery will last longer too but wrote this review straight away as so impressed with SSD. In fact I think I will be using the laptop more often now as a pleasure to use. Note. If you are also upgrading RAM which is a more time consuming process you may wish to consider if the bios battery will need replacing soon as that also is on the underside of the motherboard.

Ok, so installing one of these in a fusion welded (glued/thin) screen iMac, isn't an easy job, but a couple of YouTube tutorials later and off I went. All fitted as it should and I purchased the screen glue strip for about £4 too to finish the job. You are supposed to "Clone" the old HD to make it a straight forward instal, however my old HD wouldn't comply (hence new one). So I have restart in recovery mode, and format this SSD then install the oldest iOS which I think was Snow Leopard, then work my way up to El Capitain. A couple of phone calls to Apple helps they assisted with that one (they were fab). And guess what? the machine is like new, fast, responsive and full of energy, quite amazing really. I do have my photos on a separate external HD and so I've just upgraded that disc to one of these too and again, it's so fast esp with 800gb of pictures and videos on! I'm really pleased with the upgrade and for £200 (as I bough 2 in the end) my 9yr Mac, works like new one. Yes it was a bit squeaky bum when the thing didn't start properly as I couldn't format it (do this if you can), but Apple help were brilliant. Go for it, you won't regret it, I'm really pleased...no more wheel of doom!

So I am a 72-year-old pensioner who is a gamer and radio amateur with little income. Yes, I am a techie and worked in electronics as well as software and have built dozens of PCs over the years, but I cannot afford to build the new better gaming PC that I would like right now, so I thought that I would make the best of the one I have. So I have an AMD FX-8370 Eight-Core Processor on my old ASUS motherboard and now have 32 GB of DDR3-2133 RAM but because of some problems, I had to switch my system drive from an old SSD to a WD Raptor drive (I already had two Samsung SSDs for other drives). Although the Raptor drive is a fast Enterprise-class drive, the difference after replacing it with a Samsung 870 QVO SSD 1TB drive and optimizing it is "night and day". Yes, you can buy cheaper SSDs than the Samsung ones and not everyone likes the Samsung Magician software, but I can thoughly recommend using both. Apart from improving the RAM, fitting a Samsung 870 QVO SSD drive and optimizing it is one of the best ways of getting the best out of older hardware. However if you go for 2 weeks - and require to backup everything. This is an ideal SSD, its not the fastest - however what i was looking for is good speed, known quality. This SSD / brand is ideal. I have done multiple tests on speed, it does perform as advertised, thus i am very satisfied. Until prices for the 900 series come down, this is a great alternative all things considered.
