Easy Steps to Chinese Textbook 1 (v. 1)

This book was required for one of my kids. The book came clean and she states it is useful and easy to follow. My Mandarin is non-existent so I can't speak to the quality of the writing. But the book itself is well made. It seems to progress logically. And maybe most important it looks like it will hold up for more than 6 months. It works well with the workbook though to my untrained eye they don't seem to correlate 100%. We will see.

This is a great book for kids. I ran a study abroad business for 8 years in China and this is one of the top books we used to teach kids. I highly recommend it.

This textbook is very good, but not for a beginner that has NO access to a live teacher. Perhaps with someone right there telling you how sounds are pronounced it is a great book. The CD is confusing; for example, everything is in Chinese, even the problem numbers. It is very difficult to tell where on the page they are talking about. And, you have to listen to the introduction in THREE languages every time you want to repeat page one. Very annoying. If this was labeled "Book two" or "Use with a live teacher" this would get higher marks. And of course, the CD tracts need improvement. I had to put this book (and workbook）aside and watch Chinese videos on YouTube for a few weeks before even considering going back to the textbook.

I am a Chinese teacher, this book is very good for the kids to study Chinese as the second language. Now I use this to teach my daughter and son!

It is a little to easy for me but all exercises are well organized, not too hard, not too easy. No one tried too hard if you know what I mean. You can learn writing, check your grammar and vocabulary. Also it will help you with your radicals!

Bought it for my son to learn Chinese. Good book with fast delivery (expected the end of the month, but arrived earlier). It suits kids and very beginner on Chinese learning, with a lot of examples and colourful pictures to attract kids’ attention. Overall meets my needs.
