Batteries last much longer than any other lamps we have had. Good design, brightness, durability. It would be nice to have a removable baffle on one side so you aren't blinded when looking at something it illuminates.

Great lantern! I would avoid standard batteries with this lantern since so many regular alkaline batteries have a tendency to leak. It works well with Panasonic AA Eneloop rechargeable batteries and Panaonic AA to D cell adapters. Rechargeable batteries are much less likely to leak versus alkaline. Even if you run into a leaky alkaline battery the terminals are easy to clean up with a Q-tip and a little vinegar to neutralize the base alkaline discharge followed up with some rubbing alcohol. A handy little lantern that cranks out a lot of light when you need it. With a little bit of modification, this is a buy it for life battery powered lantern.

Brightness was really good on it!! Whish it was rechargeable though

I'm very satisfied with this lantern. It's very bright and the battery life is excellent. The hook on the bottom let's it hang perfectly in my tent, making spending time in the tent after sunset much more enjoyable. I will definitely be packing this for every camping trip and it's great to have at home in case of a blackout.

I've used this and the 60 day and own many many of them - I swear by them. Hard to read with them after a few weeks - but they do seem to last the full time they say (30 and 60 days respectfully). ONE PROBLEM THEY DO NOT LIKE RECHARGEABLE LI-ION BATTERIES!!!! -- i GOT A lot OF THERMAL THROTTLING WITH THEM - AND THE FACTORY DIDN'T KNOW JACK ABOUT THEM -- i returned the Li-ion batteries rather than switch these puppies out. I do use the Pro-Cell batteries and can tell the difference between them and other alkaline batteries. They do dim over time -- but I'm down hill to 80 years old so some of it is my eyes. When my near off grid house burned without insurance I replaced these first -- and now, without ANY power, these are all I need. But I was raised to turn a light on when I need it and off when I'm not around. I go through about 3 battery changes a year. AGAIN NOT FOR USE WITH RECHARGEABLE LI-ION BATTERIES -- ALKALINE ONLY - I RECOMMEND PRO-CELL BECAUSE AFTER NEARLY 10 YEARS OF USING THE UST LANTERNS I THINK PRO-CELLS WORKS BETTER ENOUGH TO WARRANT THE EXTRA PRICE --

I've purchased at least three or four of these as gifts, silent auction items and for myself. I end up using it more than I thought I would. Light quality is excellent. It looks very nice for the price paid.

Not a good light… First it’s a pain to close the bottom once you put the batteries in. Second when you turn it on it always starts at the brightest setting. Third the low setting has a strange pulse every few seconds. Fourth the candle mode is worthless as it’s very generic and doesn’t act like a candle at all.. This will be returned. It has potential if they make a new version with a simple knob that turns it on and changes the brightness from low to high. Also they need to remove the worthless candle mode and stop the low setting from having the strange pulse…

I did have a bit of trouble inserting the batteries, just awkward to do the base up. Once in and lit, it was brilliant.

Ordered two of these lanterns recently, primarily to use indoors if we lose our power. (Coincidentally, we lost our power the day I ordered them and they arrived the day after it was restored.) I'm impressed by how much light they give off in the brightest setting (there are four in total); you can light a huge room with just one. Best part is they only take 3 D cell batteries to operate. Would be great for camping as well as they are lighweight and sturdy. A very good buy.
