omgogoCoffee Tamper Barista Espresso Tamper 51mm Base Coffee Bean Press

The MEASUREX Chock full o'Nuts scoop I was using to tamp my espresso grounds required that I press harder, and though round did not closely fit my Krups type 171 espresso machine portafilter. This omgogo tamper fits well and weighs 198 grams (as opposed to the 53mm version, which weighs 250 grams). The handle, which unscrews, is, as others have noted (some critically), hollow. If the weight of this tamper is deemed insufficient, the 3/4" X 2-3/4" cylindrical void in the handle could be filled (all or partly) with bbs, ball bearings, or some other weighty material. If the potential for the handle to unscrew is a concern, a little Loctite is a simple solution.

Pretty good for the price. The tamper head is 53mm exactly, heavy and made of stainless steel. The handle is light but seems to be made of something like aluminum and well painted. The ringed groove at the bottom of tamper is nice. Full height is 80mm.

When I received the tamper I was really excited. I happened to notice a scratch on the very top of the handle and I exchanged it. When I received the new tamper, I unscrewed the handle and found rust inside. I took a look at the 1st tamper I received and it had the same issue. I was disappointed and returned both of them. I found another one on Amazon which was expensive, but the price is worth the high quality.

this does the job. flattens the coffee.
