It is anti glare so it is much better than nothing at all. I think it works as well as can be expected. I can read in places I was unable to before.

Will it fit a car touch screen that measures 8 inches diagonally?

Since the screen protector is not designed for your car's touch screen, even if it covers the screen, the overall fit won't be an exact match. The dimensions of this product are 7.75" x 5.25", so it should cover your screen's diagonal measurement of 8". Since you didn't list the height and width of your screen, some trimming will certainly be necessary but how much is unknown. You are unlikely to be happy with the result of not buying a screen protector that is designed to fit the screen you are applying this to.

I see on here that the anti glare isn't popular- can something else be applied with it to help?

The anti-glare is one of the reasons I bought it for my Kindle. Also, the shield doesn't smudge and smear like the screen does without the shield. The Kindle screen behind the shield is bright so you don't even notice the shield is there. Also, it wipes off very easily unlike the screen before the shield was installed.
