My beans look and feel like they have been oiled. Is this supposed to be normal? I never noticed this before.

The people at Peet's would be better in answering this question, but I'll give you my few cents worth: The flavors and odors are in oils inherent to the bean.  I've  noticed a colored oil slick on the surface of a brew, but never to the extent where it is unpleasant.  These people do make a great cup of coffee--trust them.

Can you use after expire date?

Thank you for your question. The freshest by date is the date that we recommend you enjoy your coffee by, however this is not an expiration date.  The coffee is still safe to drink but it will not be at it's peak flavor.

Yes, dark roasts, and especially Peet's, will have a bean surface sheen / oil.  If you're using a semi-automatic or more so, a fully automatic espresso machine, you may want to steer clear of "oily" beans as they may clog up a bit more.  Try Lavazza beans as they tend to have a more matted finish.  Even on their dark roasts (Simfonico and Gran Riserva), the beans are not as oily as Peet's or Starbucks (meh) beans.  For Peets, Major Dickason's and Espresso Forte seem to be the less-oily Peet's beans, and the tastes are spot on.  But do give those two Lavazza beans a try.  You might like them.  The price is right, the taste is usually quite good and the only possible downside is the older roast dates.  Cheers

How does this compare to Lavazza super crema?

I've had a few varieties of LaVazza; honestly, I like the sound of their name better than I've liked any of their coffees.  Can't remember if I've had Lavazza Super crema.

Though I like Peets Major Dickasons, I wasn't overly wow-ed by the Peets 
Espresso Forte either; so don't know if that helped much.
