I add a little extra OOMPH to my kitchen
Once you get in the rhythm of using it you wont got back. There are plenty of videos out there to show you how to "Season/Cure your Molcajete". You only need to do it once and your set for life.Replace you minced garlic (or ginger) with garlic(or ginger) you can now grind to a paste (very helpful for many Indian and Asian dishes, as well as central and southern American foods like Chimichurri or salsas). Grind spices or herbs by hand to really bring out flavors. (It works for vinaigrettes as well). It is legit volcanic rock to, which makes a world of deference for you when compared to some cheap one from a chain store. (the are usually made with concrete and suck).Heavy, functional, and very presentable (looks nice to serve in).It isn't a necessary buy, BUT it is wonderful addition to my kitchen and I never want to give it away

Curing it is a chore but a big necessity and only done once in a life time.
There is ABSOLUTELY nothing i dont like about this item. What i love most about it is it is actually made in mexico. EVERYTHING is made in china. It is so refreshing to be able to purchase a hispanic tool from an hispanic orogin. I just wish we had more options. I am of mexican decent and i find it nearly impossible to purchase things from my family herritage. I wish i could do more. But i digress...the item is awsome but a bit of a chore to cure. This is something that is really necessary but only needed to do once in a life time for that item. Grind rice and salt as many times needed till it comes out clean while rounding off any sharp edges on the pessel. Rinse with clean water and a kitchen brush and let dry. Then grind up a couple cloves of garlic (3) with the food grade oil of choice while ensuring coverage all the way to the top of the mortar. Let stand over night then rinse with brush and let dry then ready to use. UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES SHOULD YOU EVER USE SOAP. Unless of coarse you like the taste of soap. If you ever need a deep clean just cook it in the oven. It is after all a volcanic rock.😉

Good molcajete!
I purchased this to give my daughter for Christmas. She is delighted with her molcajete and has already made guacamole and salsa. She told me that curing the molcajete took effort but that the improved flavor of the salsa and guacamole made it worth it.
