GSM Gate Opener, RTU 5024 Access Controller, Remote On/Off Switch Free Call SMS Command Support 850/900/1800/1900MHz

I installed this for a friend, mistakes were made, mistakes were corrected, seems to work fine in northern Colorado.My friend gave me a sim card which "should work fine." Turns out it was set up for a data only plan, no texting. It didn't work fine.I purchased a $2, 1 week trial period sim card. There's about an hour from when it's activated until it really starts to work. It takes time for the phone number associated with the sim card to populate the cell tower network.I tested the new sim card in an old phone. Once I knew the sim card was working it helped debug the gate opener.Pay attention to the blinking red light on the radio unit. When it blinks fast (about every second) it's saying it hasn't connected to the cell network. When it blinks slow (every 2 seconds) it's saying it has connected. The data only sim card never connected.Just because it's blinking slowly it doesn't mean your texts are going through. There's that 1 hour delay I mentioned above.And finally, pay attention to the # characters. In particular when setting up a phone number with1234TEL3035551212#For whatever reason I have a hard time remembering that last #.My only complaint is latency. It takes about 5 seconds from my text until action at the radio. This is probably due to the latency of the cell network and has nothing to do with the radio unit. My friend's application is somewhat time sensitive so this is a tiny problem.

I have tried a few different variations. None of them will work in the US.

I purchased a bell SIM card here in Canada and activated it in a pre paid phone plan but the gate opener won’t set up. The red light is blinking every 0.8 seconds. Is there a certain SIM card I should purchase. Mine has 20 digits and does not allow me to even sms To it
