I might suggest you use a razor to make intermittent perforation around the airbags . The fabric is thin fleece like covering with a 3/16" thick foam backing. Just little shallow cuts around the airbag without cutting all the way through. The airbag should be powerful enough to break on through when discharged. BUT YOU BE THE JUDGE -- do not trust my opinion. **Q: I want to restore my headliner and replace it was a dark brown. When purchasing everything do all i need is this material and some adhesive?** A: I purchased the material and roller and one can of adhesive. My son helped me but we ran out of adhesive near the very end. I pulled the original liner to my 1996 Ford F250 super cab, remove the old fabric, used the 3M and sprayed it on the back of the new fabric and on the original liner board and then rolled out the fabric very carefully with consistent pressure throughout.
