Very good, except for a little bit of nit-picking
Very good diamond steel, great for freshening the edge on my mandolins, german knives, paring knives. I would have given 5 stars, but a metal guard that protects the handle right where the steel base and handle meet came off. A little bit of Krazy Glue fixed everything in 30 seconds, but the name says it all. G-E-R-M-A-N-Y. It should have been perfect from the start, I shouldn't have to "adjust" it before I even put my first knife to it.

... the coarsely punched guard flopping around loosely over the useless spot of adhesive
The first tip off was the coarsely punched guard flopping around loosely over the useless spot of adhesive. The biggest problem was a lump in the body easily big enough to damage a fine knife edge.Adding insult to injury, was noticing that "Slitzer Germany" seems only to be a copyrightedproduct name. The product is Made in China. No apparent connection to Germany at all.Even if it hadn't had the lump, this manufacturer's "600 grit" is the coarsest I've ever seen on a steel.Grit numbering isn't standardized, and manufacturers often use different ranges on different products.A steel is normally a fine or very fine grit. This one is really coarse. (That could be useful in somesituations, but not generally what one expects in a steel.)
