I changed my bedding from a nesting pad to this mat thinking I could save money. My guinea girls wanted nothing to do with this mat and the boys all clustered around it and pecked at it and made chirping what the heck is this danger noises!! The eggs were laid outside on the floor right next to the house and not inside the house when it was lined with the mat. It is quite hard and spiky to the touch. I removed the mat and put the regular bedding back and the eggs are being laid inside the house again. In defense of the mat, it may be my fussy guineas.

The chickens don't like it. They will lay anywhere else but on the pads.The eggs have a tendency to break and then the chickens peck the pads to bits trying to get at the broken egg.

These nesting mats are working great, the chickens are no longer laying on the hard bottom of our layer boxes because they scratched all the straw out of the boxes. We also are seeing less eggs broken when we collect them, very happy with this purchase.

I like it, but my wife's high maintenance chickens did not like this pad material in the laying boxes. I use the padding for the egg collection basket, and it works perfectly.

I use this in front of the nesting box to help wipe some of the poop off before they walk in. Seems to help quite a bit. And I just take it out and hose it off.
