Plain topsoil works best. I had to add more water than recommended to keep it moist while I made the balls. It took me a couple of hours to do by myself. The smaller seeds are easier to work with. If you do use larger ones, (sunflower size) it's better to keep them out that way you can put them in center of ball. I used pinterest recipe that had a 3-2-1 ratio clay-dirt-seed.
