It is steel cast metal. It is of very good quality. I would recommend this puzzle, it is difficult to solve, buy fun!

Once you have solved it, is it still a challenge or is the fun over?

It's challenging for the first 4 or 5 times until you really wrap your head around it, then it's easy. Frankly, re-assembly is more challenging beyond the first 4 or 5 times...

The rivets are not gold in color which makes the unit look much cheaper than in the photo. what color are the rivets in the general community?

We spoke with Hanayama in Japan and received the following response: "The quality control team informed us that the cast Hexagon changed rivets on the metal plates from copper material to stainless steel because the copper color changed to black after use. To control the color stability they changed this in April of 2017." We are awaiting new photography from Hanayama, and will update our packaging to reflect this material change. Until the new packaging is received (which will take a few months), the image on the packaging will show the copper rivets, despite the steel rivets inside the package. We apologize for any confusion this may cause. Thank you for bringing this to our attention.
