Beautiful and Functional!
I am definitely glad I splurged on this pen. Let’s start off with the packaging. I’m not big on packaging at all, but Lachieva’s efforts here are impressive. The pen comes really well protected in a very nice pen box, but what really sets it off is the branded carry bag the box comes in. All you need to do is slap on a nametag, and it’s ready to be gifted. The first thing you notice about this pen is that there is so. much. abalone. With other, pricier pens you only get the good stuff on the barrel, or barrel and cap, and that’s it. It’s everywhere on the Lux: barrel, cap, posting area, and most importantly the grip. When you use this pen, there is no time you aren’t touching beautiful, shimmering shell. How luxury is that!? I like the dedicated posting section of the barrel; it really keeps the cap secure. The abalone bands are narrow but well matched all the way around and covered in a glassy smooth finish. They are also single pieces running the entire length of the cap or barrel, not smaller pieces like on other pens. The Schmidt nib lives up to its reputation, a joy to write with and ready to go every time I pick it up, even after the pen has stood upright over the weekend. The Lux comes with a very nice converter that has a metal collar, something I’ve seen in only one other midrange pen. If you’re ready to treat yourself with a beautiful and unique writing instrument, I don’t think you’ll be disappointed with this one.

I like it
First of all, let me tell you that this is not my first fountain pen. I only keep the ones I love because there are only so many I can rotate , and the more valuable ones stay home ... and so in a way the expensive ones for me are actually less fun to own. There is a lot to be said for cheap fountain pens. This one, I am keeping it for myself, and it won't be traveling about where it can get lost. It is very nice..... the weight, the color and fit and finish, a quality instrument. Nice to hold in the hand, decent nibbage, and the coming together of 2 things I Love... fountain pens and mother of pearl. I like it.I'm gonna keep it. MIne has the fine nib... it's okay not super fine, with a bit of feed back, not at all scratchy, but not smooth as glass, which is my preference. This one can't be posted, So for an easily distracted person such as myself to not post a pen would mean that if I were to take it out and about, ...I had better be very aware of where I place the cap and be sure I do not run off without it. Because then I would be heartbroken over ruining this very pretty , very special pen>Mine has no drying problems, the ink and nib stays wet until I pick it up and use it again.

A solid, showy fountain pen
We wanted a fancy pen for our wedding so people could sign things. This was our little splurge that turned into a lovely workhorse of a pen. The international cartridge makes refills super easy to use your favorite ink. I didn't have to prime or clean the pen at all before first use. The Schmidt nib has a very small amount of give to it, so when you really mash down on it with a crap ton of pressure, you can start doing some of the very fancy penmanship similar to the old Victorian handwriting. That said, this pen is NOT meant to do that. I constantly worried I'd break a tine when flexing it to write extra fancy. It's an absolutely lovely, smooth writing experience with just a whisper of rasping feedback as you write. The Lachieva Lux fountain pen handled the Diamine shimmering ink like a champ. I'm on my 4th ink refill, and it hasn't clogged yet. We'll see how it holds up over time, but it's definitely one of my favorite pens for sparkling ink and plain cursive writing.Pros: Comes with international cartridge so you can use your favorite inks. Construction is absolutely gorgeous. Smooth writing with Schmidt nib, writes absolutely reliably with a finicky ink.Cons: It's a heavy pen at 1.36 oz. Putting the cap on the back of the pen completely changes the weight of the pen in your hand, which changes the way you write. My hand got tired of writing more quickly when I had the cap on the pen because I wasn't used to moving so much weight around. For comparison, my 2 other favorite fountain pens are only 0.55 oz (FPR Himalaya V2GT) and 0.56 oz (Lamy Joy Calligraphy). This is a lives in your favorite pen drawer drawer kind of pen, because I would be terrified of losing the cap but I hate writing with the cap on the pen. The only other thing I wish was different would be the ability to change the nibs for some of fancier, flex fountain pen nibs out there, but that's a very niche application. As an introductory pen to the higher end of fountain pens, it's a solid choice.

A Gorgeous Lemon
I really wanted to like this pen. It is drop dead gorgeous, nothing short of stunning. It feels great in the hand. Well balanced. And the Schmidt nib writes like a dream. Boy, did I want to like this pen. But, I had to return it. The pen leaks significantly when not in use. The cap, although it snaps in place, spins loosely on the barrel when capped. This looseness allows the ink to evaporate quickly. It’s a shame. So beautiful, I was thrilled to have it in my collection. But at nearly $100, I could not abide a product with those kind of quality problems.

Not complete as pictured
The pen itself is lovely, however, there is one cartridge already installed-if you collect pens, you know this is NOT DONE. Only one rather than two cartridges and no converter at all. I posed a question and was given a response that it is not designed to work with converters. 1. Calling BS, 2. Then why is it PICTURED WITH ONE?! Debating returning.

Smooth writing
I've only used the pen for less than a minute after opening and loading a cartridge, but it is as my title suggests, smooth writing. The pen feels nice in the hand without being too weighty yet substantial enough to write for some time with. I do believe I'll like this one, and will be sure to amend my review when I get round to using the pump that was also provided.
