Since 2002, Marillioncelebrate themselves and their fans in an extraordinary way. Every two years, the band and their most dedicated fans gather together for a very special weekend in the UK, the Netherlands and Canada. On three nights, Marillion perform three different shows with different set-lists consisting of full records played from start to finish, fan favourites and rarities. Fans travel from all over the world to be part of these truly amazing nights. From March 8 to March 10, 2013 one of the weekends was held in Port Zelande, Netherlands and featured a grand premiere: for the first time, Marillion performed their most recent and widely acclaimed studio album “Sounds That Can’t Be Made” in its entirety on March 10. And what a performance it was: the venue, the 2.500 strong audience and the songs were what made the night unique. Let’s put it this way: Holland delivered the usual grandeur of the Port Zelenade gigs. Besides the eight album tracks, the band also performed a selection of fan favourites ranging from “This Strange Engine” to “Garden Party”, the most successful single from the band’s debut album from the Fish-era. Rarely or hardly ever performed by front man Steve Hogarth, the song definitely is one of the evening’s highlights. Guitarist Steve Rothery is sure that “the best audience on the planet” was attending the concert whereas his band mate Pete Trewavas adds that “it was such a good vibe that year” and that “it never ceases to amaze him staring over the crowd”. Of course, the night was also very memorable to the fans: “Just to say WOW...... What a weekend and what an experience we had!!!!” - Robert Mercieca (Malta). “What a convention!! What a vibe!! Oh my goodness!!” - PM van der Kroft (Netherlands). “All the gigs were excellent.” - Charlie Carnegie (UK) After the surprise success of the 2011 live release “Live From Cadogan Hall”, “A Sunday Night Above The Rain” is able to hold up to the quality of that release and is even able to exceed it. Already Released on 2CD, 2DVD and Blu-ray, “A Sunday Night Above The Rain” provides the best possible sound and glorious high definition vision. Simply said, it’s one of the band’s finest releases so far....and now on 3 LP vinyl!

BARGAIN AT £15.14
How can they manufacture, market and sell such a stunning package for fifteen quid? Not that I am complaining!Great quality pressing and presentation.Triple album of supreme musicianship and vocals. I actually prefer the live stuff so this gets more play than the studio albums although am looking forward to the nes album due in March.

Reccorded in the Netherlands during the 2 yearly Marillion Weekend this is an unbelievable stunning and emotional performance. Fot the ones that have seen Marillion several times like me, you know that this is pretty much what you get. The evening rested heavy on Sounds That Can't Be Made which is fine with me as at the time of the release not many or no recordings of these songs yet existed. However for a balanced overview this album is not so suitable as the songs left are all classics but were all hardcore fan pleasers which works for me but might not worl for everybody.

Sounds That Can't Be Made wasn't Marillion's finest hour and a live album that heavily features songs ...
I've been a massive Marillion fan since 1983 (almost from the very start) and own all of their studio albums and a vast amount of live material - and that's part of the problem. Marillion have released so many live albums now that this is becoming a bit of a drain on loyal fans' resources.Unfortunately, whenever any product is mass produced its quality tends to suffer and this is a case in point. Marillion, conscious that they have released so many live CDs, have ensured that this latest one is populated with songs from their last studio release Sounds That Can't Be Made and that the CD is not a replication of predecessors. However, therein lies a problem. Sounds That Can't Be Made wasn't Marillion's finest hour and a live album that heavily features songs from that album will not be stellar. The opening tracks of both discs of this two CD set are Gaza and Montreal from STCBM and both are, in my opinion, very dull with some quite appalling and trite lyrics - between them they account for half an hour of mediocrity. There are some great tracks on this CD though like This Strange Engine, Waiting To Happen, King of Sunset Town and the wonderful Neverland but these can be found on previous Marillion live CDs which don't have so much average stuff.I love Marillion and have seen them live 10 times including trips to Barcelona and Paris and hate to write a negative review about one of my favourite bands. But this simply is nowhere near their normal standard and the repetetive release of live albums is becoming to look like them milking a cash cow.

Vinyl is amazing
This is a stunning live performance. The heavy weight 180g vinyl quality is superb.Marillion are in magnificent form with H the perfect front man.The odd splattering of older tracks makes for a perfect set.Truly brilliant.

An album of real quality
I'm far from a Marillion expert, having not listened to them in quite a while, but have been investigating their live discs of late, and have found them to be of a very high standard. It's bizarre the band get such little(or when they do,unwelcome)mention, they must be one of the best still standing. Not merely recycling, like Yes,for example,a slim volume of works, but truly progressing.I'd put them near the top of my "re-discoveries" list, along with King Crimson, now I'm backtracking old favourites.
