I played UO for several years - it was the ONLY game I played for a long time.Back in the day this was a great on-line universe. True interaction with people all over the world. Trade, fight, explore - you could do it all.Then came the kids. With the explosion in on-line chat that happened as the internet became 'cool' the on-line universe suffered.Brit Bank - familiar to you if you've ventured into UO before, became the on-line equivalent of the Mall. Kids standing around talking trash.The RPG feature inevitably suffered. Instead of seeing characters with medieval type names or the attitude of RPG you meet players called 'Britney Spears' or 'K1llEr DuDe'.EA tried to stem the loss of customers by adding features, but all this did was make the game more attractive to the 'dudes'.I'm sure EA doesn't care so long as the montly subs keep rolling in, but they lost a lot of the original fan base.

The good is that you can be whatever you want to be and there are enough good players out there to help you along the way. Another good is that it is much like life. The object of the game is to learn the object of the game. The instructions are purposefully vague, so you have to learn as you go. The good part to that is that even after months and months of playing, you still find new things to challenge and excite you. Also, with so many other players to interact with, the game can be most anything you want it to be. Another good thing is that there are 3 worlds that you can bounce back and forth on. Two of these disallow player vs. player combat. When I started, 5 years ago, there was only the one world, and you dared not venture outside a town or some super-character would kill you within a few minutes. Now you have the option of just fighting automated monsters.The bad is the graphics. The game looks are the same as they were 7 years ago and it's very hard to immerse yourself in a world that is made up of glorified stick figures.My suggestion: Wait for their next game, which upgrades the graphics to 2004 standards.

When I first started playing Ultima Online it had just finished Beta release and despite the bugs and slow-play I found the game to be a refreshing change from the normal video games I had played. UO managed to keep my interest for three solid years. My fourth year in to UO Sony released the much anticipated Star Wars Galaxies. Which had superior graphics and a better overall game playing experience. I left UO for greener pastures and joined SWG, three years later and much to my dismay and countless others, the developer's at Star Wars Galaxies decided to completely change (for the worse)the game. With the new changes SWG resembles a mess in transition. Rather than enduring I decided to cut and run. I have come full circle. I purchased the UO seventh anniversary edition and have come to realize that UO is and always was the best game around. Although the graphics may be less than some other games the game developer's certainly have preserved the games' integrity and overall game playing experience. Whether you're 15 or 50 you are sure to enjoy the experience!

Ultima Online's 7th anniversary edition proves to be great for new and old players. UO has been a staple in the online community now for seven years and for good reason. It is a nearly perfect game and survives on that fact alone.New players will find a new world at their finger tips full of never ending adventure. Old players will find awesome in-game rares and an extra character slot that was well needed. Not to mention it also contains every expansion thats ever been released,which makes a nice collection I might add. I have played almost everything on the market and I still come back to Ultima again and again. This is an unconquerable game that never seems to get old. What it lacks in graphics, it most certainly makes up for with its massive content and community. Whether its challenging an ancient dragon or taking on a band of murderous theives this game should challenge any curious gamer. Enjoy!
