Definitely what I Was Looking For!
No toy here! It's extremely solid and would be very effective simply as a defensive baton, let alone having a stun function. The light is quite bright and as others have noted, the light is multi-mode (steady or flashing light, bright and dim). I've never had to deploy this item so I don't know how well it works in stun mode. I can say that I am pleased with my purchase even though I've yet to use it (the fact is I hope I don't ever need to).

UPDATE: Defective out of the box
The first baton that was sent was obviously used and did not work. I exchanged it and received a new one this time. We really like it. We live in a rural area and my wife uses it when walking our dogs for protection from coyotes. The flashlight is helpful at times but not designed to light a path. It is bright and concentrated enough to reflect coyotes' beady little eyes from a distance however. The stun is very effective as a coyote deterrent. Several times coyotes have noticed our dogs and stared from a distance. One zap in their direction and they take-off. In a hurry. It is important (and very difficult) to read the tiny directions. The controls are not intuitive.Out of the box the flashlight would not work. It appears that this baton was previously opened and used - and probably returned because the flashlight does not work.

Nice item, fairly well made and nice features
I purchased this item for my wife when she is home and for the 2 of us when we go out for a walk around the neighborhood. I live in a very safe development and have no concerns,. however, it is always good to be prepared. Also, this item would do a nice job of defending against a dog encountered during our walks. The item is fairly well constructed, looks like a police nightstick, and has the added HUGE plus of providing a decent flashlight and a powerful stun "gun". I charged up and tested the item without issue (just a quick press to test to make sure it works. Don't press it more than a second or you could ruin it! The item could probably do some decent damage if you hit someone with it, as it is fairly solid and all metal. However, I am not sure how well everything else (flashlight and stun gun) would work if you used the item as a nightstick. It comes with a case that would allow you to hang it from your belt or from somewhere and, although people complained about it, I think it will hold up fine. However, because the item is long, I doubt anyone is going to hang it from their belt and walk with it on, because it will likely bang your knees. The other thing that people complain about is the way you have to press a button to change from off to flashlight to stun gun. It works and you have to get used to it, but it is not the most elegant setup, for sure! The biggest issue is that there is no indicator that tells you which mode you are in. So you will need to practice. All in all, I am happy with the purchase!

Flimsy and unreliable
I simulated beating an attacker (by swinging the baton around really hard) and it separated into 2 halves. One half stayed in my hand and the other half went flying across the room. . . it didn't work after that! I am glad I verified how "sturdy" this item was before ever having to use it. Also, both of the metal pieces in the stun gun portion (where the arc of electricity crosses) fell out! Do not purchase this item.

Is intimidating but poor control design.
While this is heavy duty and the light is very bright, the design of the controls is terrible. There is a very small on/off toggle switch on the bottom to power on and off the unit. There are two push buttons, that you would press with your thumb. However these two buttons are a little too far away from where you are gripping so you have to loosen your grip to press them. You want to grip this thing as tight as possible if you ever have to use it, but you cannot. Also, you can only cycle through the three modes, linearly. This means that from off, to light, to stun you have to cycle through them. You cannot go from stun to light, and you do not know if you are on stun or light! So if you lose track of which mode you are one, you can turn the taser on instead of turn the flashlight on. This can scare the be-Jesus out of anyone nearby. If you want to use the taser function, you might accidentally turn the light on, and this can be very bad. Also, you cannot stun while the light is on. You have to turn the light off, then stun! I was going to use this for home security and I assume I will need this at night if I every need to. I should be able to have the light on, then press the stun button when need be. This is a poor design and I wish I know this before I bought it I would have looked for another product.

A very substantial weapon
Recently my dog Orielle and I were attacked by an Akita (Japanese attack dog). Orielle is a Miniature Australian Shepherd. She suffered serious wounds which took 48 stitches to close. I broke a finger righting off the Akita. We both survived. But now I walk with this stun gun for protection. Have not had to use it yet - so I don't know if it works. But it does give me a lot of comfort knowing that I have it if I need it. I is n cheap piece of junk. It is very heavy. A very substantial weapon. I recommend that everyone have one of these things.

Good aggressive dog deterrent!
I got this because some putzes in the neighborhood don't believe in controlling their dogs. My wife was bitten by an obviously aggressive doberman "puppy", and we were charged by him another time (with the owner there - he refuses to leash him - he said he just "wants to play"). 2 days ago, while I was walking my dog, the doberman and his owner came straight to us (after I told him to just stay away). The dog put his head down and started pulling the owner. I told him to back off, which the dog ignored and pulled his owner down to the ground and drug him. I pulled out the baton, turned it on and told him "no! stop!", to which he didn't. So I just zapped it in the air for a second and the dog got the idea and walked off. It works! I hope I really don't have to zap either one of them. I tried it on an ant bed and it fried them.
