I bought this because my 9yr old 60 lb. female red nose Staffordshire would get itchy every spring. Other than springtime sensivities I believed her to be in great condition. As she aged the springtime problems got worse every year. She had had cortisone shots and prednisone pills in the past which helped her get thru the worst months but I knew the side effects were no good for her or me. Early last spring, while dreading those warmer months coming on for my girl Seri, I started researching different approaches to help her thru the miserably itchy time of year. I decided to try this probiotic for her and started with a half of scoop (1/2 dose) a.m. and p.m. to get her used to it. I sprinkled it on her kibble. She didn't seem to mind the powder, but for some reason she slowed her bites down and chewed more which was a good thing. Even though she was not in full itch mode at the time, what symptoms their were, started abating within 4 days. I gradually brought her up to full dose and kept her there to this day. Her itching went away and never fully materialized again. I have tried to lower her dose a couple times, but when I do, she shows signs of the itch coming back. So I don't hesitate to bring her back up to full dose right away. Even tho she used to make it thru the cold months fine, I will continue a probiotic, likely for the rest of her life. Seri has had a very active life and is still very active. In fact excercise was most important when she was in her itchy phases - it would take the edge off. As she got older she developed a periodic limp in her front shoulder. She also had a tendency for weight fluctuations and bloat. With this product all of that went away as well. Her coat became softer and her smell is sweeter too. She is overall a very happy, playful and balanced girl dog. Still going horseback and bike riding with me and in great condition. I do know she would not be as healthy if I had not started her on this probiotic 8 months ago. It gives me new hope for my 4 legged partner in her golden years. 4 months ago I put her on a New food that is very low in simple carbs. The least amount of grains, peas or potatoes I could find. I wish it were easier to find a dog food that is made the way it was 40 yrs ago; out of the things that were good for dogs. It has changed for the worse. Poor puppies. Thought about a raw diet but that seemed extreme for a 9 yr old. Aaah well. Hope this helps someone with their dog. If your dog is young and you are starting to see some itchy ear and coat problems, whether all year or certain times of the year, make some changes now because the symptoms get worse as they age. There is no getting around it. Also excercise your friend, large or small. There is no substitute for a hike-about, Even a short one. A yard, no matter how big is nothing but a fish bowl. If you listen, you can hear the frustration in a dogs barking in your neighborhood that is stuck in a fish bowl 24/7. Take them out regularly and that frustrated barking, digging, fence fighting etc. Will go away. Good Luck All. Thanks!

Works great for my dog!
My 4 year old Cavalier King Charles has digestive issues and periodically he would have a bad episode...which happened this past March. He would not eat his food (quality brand...I have used Canidae, Fromm, Zignature etc.)that he absolutely loved and instead would go out to eat grass and throw up. Sometimes he would not eat all day, others once he threw up, maybe an hour or so later he would finally eat. Usually a switch in the brand of food/protein would solve the problem, but this past March, that was not the case. Nothing I did seemed to help. I took him to the vet and he discovered that my dog had an unusually large amount of yeast in his stool. Before running more expensive tests, he first wanted me to try a probiotic on him to see if clearing the yeast would make a difference. He usually carried two types in his office, Proviable (which he was out of) and Purina Forti-Flora. The Forti-Flora did absolutely nothing for him. A friend had recommended Mercola and after reading reviews I decided to give it a try. I started him on the theraputic dose which is a scoop twice a day. I saw IMMEDIATE results! He no longer had the desire to eat grass and throw up. After 2 weeks I reduced it to one scoop in the morning meal. It's now been just over 4 months and he has been doing great! My only complaint is the cost. Someone also recommended Probiotic Miracle. The container is smaller and costs about the same, but Probiotic Miracle should last 4 months according to my dogs weight where the Mercola lasts only about 1 1/2 months. The reviews are also good for that one so I plan to give it a try too and will report back on that at a later date. I know some people are against probiotics saying they don't do anything, but I have to say, it has been a blessing for my dog and has made a real difference!

MIRACLE PRODUCT for IRRITABLE BOWEL DISEASE!!
This has been a miracle product for my cat with irritable bowel disease. Before I found these probiotics, I tried more conventional remedies. First treatment was steroid shots at the vet; the first injection was great and lasted many months, but became much less effective with the next two rounds. To make matters worse, steroids weaken the immune system and he developed an upper respiratory infection - because his immune system was so compromised, I truly didn't think he was going to recover he was so very sick. Pepcid AC helped with symptoms of digestive distress, but only treated the symptoms and not the issue. Once I started him with Dr. Mercola's Complete Probiotics for Pets, all the issues began to disappear within about two weeks. He has been on the probiotics for seven weeks now, and no longer needs the Pepcid AC for symptoms. His diarrhea is gone. His lethargy is gone, and he is alert and content. He is grooming himself for the first time in years. He no longer limps along in pain, but actually runs and wants to play again for the first time in years. I thought my little friend was on his deathbed, and all he needed was this product. I can not say enough good things about it! I give him about 3/4 of a scoop in his canned food three times a day; he doesn't necessarily eat all of it, but I know he is getting a steady dose of probiotics throughout the day. (my other cats lick up what he leaves behind, so they get some benefits too!) It is not inexpensive, but this REALLY WORKS and is less money and trouble than regular visits to the vet.
