Can it run on solar? How many watts does it use?

If you have a solar power source, you can simply plug the light and pump into that. The pump is standard 120V and the light is 12V with a 120V transformer.

Does this come with aquasoil that plants can grow in or do you recommmend I buy some seperately?

I would see no obstacle in converting to a solar pump. I would read the stats from pump supplied. Then, look for a solar w/similar power and water input/output.
