Simple but it works
Saving for more expensive wind instrument but in the meantime it tells me the direction of wind well

Good Kitsch
My Windex is lying somewhere at the bottom of the lake. The mast is too tall for the new Windex to be installed this year so I'm having to go the season without it. Little pieces of mylar tape don't last, yarn tied to the shrouds is useless in very light air (when you really do need help in finding the breeze), and taking up smoking just to see where the smoke goes didn't seem like a good idea. These Wind-Tels were the perfect answer to my problem. In fact, other sailors have liked them well enough that a couple of others have added them just for the showiness of it all (sort of like having streamers on ones bicycle handlebars or fuzzy dice hanging off the rear-view mirror). Good kitsch. In my case, however, also very useful. I think I'll leave them on next season even though my Davis Windex will be back atop the mast just for the fun of it.

Inexpensive and solid solution
Really holds well onto the side stays. I didn't want to mount a vane to the masthead as I already have my radio antenna up there and neither wanted to climb or unstep the mast. This works perfectly for me.

Cheap product
Not worth the money. Product is cheaply made and very small. one lasted 1 week before it broke.

They work great
They are very expensive for what your actually getting. But they do make catching the wind so much easier when sailing

Works great, quick to (un)install
I have a 26 foot sailboat and lost 2 windex in the past when comes time to winterize it. Those take seconds to install and work really well. Note that I do not race and don't care much for the last few degree when going upwind so I can't say how well it does for this use case.

Not for larger boats
Don't seem to work well on a larger (24 ft) boat. Maybe better on a smaller dinghy?
