Photo of product says 4way powered NOAA WEATHER ALERT. Please exp[ain.** A: It has a switch on it for NOAA weather alerts. The 4-way power is this: it has a handle you can turn to charge it, that's 1; it has a solar panel for charging, that's 2; it has a lithium ion (or something) battery that you can plug into the wall to charge, that's 3; and you can also put 3 AA batteries in it to power it, that's 4. 4-ways to charge it. I liked this radio, but wish I had bought the digital one for a few bucks more. **Q: If the internal rechargeable batteries are dead and there are no back-up batteries installed will the radio work on solar power only?** A: I have not tried this yet. When I cranked it for a minute (after batteries were dead) and then left it in the sun all afternoon it ran for only 15 minutes (whereas when the battery is fully charged it will go for 6 hours). Now it's possible that this "trickle charging" from the sun will allow it to play the radio all day. (I don't think it would charge the batteries for more than a few minutes of night use, however, if the radio were on while it was operating in the sun on solar power. I wish I'd checked out that possibility...if I get to it I will come back and give an update. **Q: If you insert AA batteries, does it override rechargeable batt., or can you switch between? Or do you remove the Nimh pack to make room for AA?** A: The optional AA batteries are in addition to the included rechargeable battery. Power selector switch on front allows separate choice of "Batt" (i.e. AA cells), or "Crank/Solar" (which are the two ways of charging up the rechargeable battery). Happy with my purchase! ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Best radio reception compared to similar radios i have. Issues with the AA batteries compartment *by V***N on 1 January 2024* The radio reception is absolutely fantastic!!! Compared to other cheaper emergencies radios I have, radio reception one Katio is the best one hands down. There are so many radio channels, yet they are all clear, we get them instantly without grizzly noises. It is so good you that if it it a song you like, because the reception is so clear and you can increase the sound you feel like dancing, this apart from classical, local radios etc. Lights-wise I have had just as good lighting with other more inexpensive radios if not better than this with this Kaito Voyager Radio. This Kaito radio has an SOS light but no SOS alarm unlike other emergency radios I have. Batteries wise, apart from the pre-installed rechargeable battery, there are 2 compartments, one for 1 AA Batterie, and another one for 2 AA Batteries. Unfortunately the compartment to insert 2 AA batteries does not seem big enough to hold them both. If you compare the length size of the AA compartment underneath for just the one battery, you can tell the compartment for the 2 AA batteries should be longer in length. As per my enclosed video when I put in one AA Battery on the the left side of the compartment and the other battery just next to the other battery, both batteries just fly off the compartment. After a while I tried to insert one battery starting from the right side of the compartment (which does not make sense but works eventually) and then inserted the next battery on its left, It may take one or a few takes but then they manage to stay inside. I then close the lid carefully. I chose this radio because unlike some other radios that only have an inbuilt rechargeable battery (what do we do if the only inbuilt rechargeable battery stops working?), this Kaito radio uses both AA batteries and a pre installed built-in rechargeable battery, so if the inbuilt rechargeable battery stops working we have a back up with AA batteries we can find everywhere at the moment. Unfortunately this Kaito radio has issues with it AA compartment and if it fails, it will be the same as other radios having only the inbuilt rechargeable battery. After charging the radio via its inbuilt rechargeable battery (with the AA Batteries compartment empty) the radio worked without the 3 AA batteries inside the radio. I like the fact this radio can also use solar, a dynamo crank handle and a USB cable to charge. I also love its nice range of colour you can choose from.
