Perfect for guitar fret edge bevels and general luthier work
Bought to put in a block of wood to create a high quality fret bevelling tool for guitar refrets. Works well is smooth. Just need to cut the handle off, I used a dremel with a speed click metal cutting blade. Finished by grinding the edge square and smooth. For other luthier this may seem to be a lot of hassle, but the file is better than the cheap and poor quality guitar marketed Chinese versions. Also you can create your own angle so if you want a shallow bevel e.g 15 degrees you can create a block with an angled cut exactly to your spec. Most importantly this file is 4mm thick give or take .mm and doesn’t taper like the vast majority and it has a safe edge. The safe edge could do with a few runs over to get to a polished level on diamond or wet stone/belt sander etc. But if you mount into the block of wood safe edge up you reduce the risk of gouging you’re perfectly levelled frets

Poorly packaged and in 2 pieces
Arrived poorly packaged and snapped in half. Yeah, I know - snapped in half. A very clean break though, no jagged or sharp edgesedges.

Safe edge is a little bit of a misnamer
A good 6inch 2nd cut file however the safe edge is a bit rough.

Not so safe edge.
The file arrived on time and was sufficiently well packed. Looks ok but have not used it ‘in anger’ thus far so can’t comment on sharpness and wear resistance as yet. The ‘safe edge’ was nothing like it. The process of cutting the teeth on the working faces of the file had raised burrs which I had to grind off to produce a properly effective safe edge. Not so much of a problem and the tool is now as it should be.
