Pocketalk S Two-Way Voice Translator with 2-Year Built-in Data (White)

I have customers coming into Cultured Cowboy Western Store speaking languages which I do not. Customers always smile large when I bring out this translator to converse with them. I originally bought it to do Zoom Meetings with an Italian speaking peer. It does not function well over Zoom calls. Time lags, and other factors. Better in person as it was designed. It works more accurately if speaking a little slower than normal, in any language. Worth the investment.

I am a teacher and have 6 languages being spoken in my classroom. I first tested the PocketTalk with adults that were multilingual as well as testing it out with the school's Spanish teacher. They were amazed at how accurate it is. They said the accent and intonations are on point. I then used the PocketTalk with my students (Kindergarteners) and it worked amazingly well! Changing the language to be translated is very simple and quick. This item is very user friendly and effective! I used it for three days (6 hours each day) and did not need to charge it. I can easily place it in my pocket when not in use.

The display interface is poorly designed, particularly for the other person who has to press the screen to switch to their language. Most of the screen space is used to make a language selection. So as soon as someone touches the wrong section of the screen, a confusing menu of languages comes up, and instantly they've selected some arbitrary language interested of simple being able to respond. The device dies in two days without charge. The international data doesn't work in most places. When there is Wi-Fi, you have to connect every time. When there is no internet connection, the unit is basically worthless. I thought this would be superior as it was a dedicated hardware device, I was wrong. There are better free options on Android and iOS.

This little translator is great. Me and my wife use it at the doctor's office, pharmacy and everywhere else. There is a learning curve to be efficient with it. A small drawback is that it must be connected to either a data plan or WiFi to use. Previous translations can be used offline.

My boyfriend is a public service worker & they get a lot of different people from different backgrounds and will sometimes come in without anyone to translate for them. If they don't have someone who speaks the language in-office, they have to search for someone in a different office to do it for them and it can take a while to find someone (if they ever do). They're not allowed to have their cell phones out so this was perfect. The customers are always so ecstatic when they realize they're not going to have to struggle through a conversation to say what they need. And if they aren't able to be helped that day, they're not leaving confused and know exactly what they need to do or bring back. He brings this with him everywhere now just in case we meet someone who speaks Spanish (which happens a lot here in Los Angeles). And he's also able to communicate now with his step-dad's family from El Salvador. The camera is not the best quality, but it definitely works for what it needs to do. Love this product!

I purchased the Pocketalk Instant Voice Translator with high hopes, especially given its support for 80+ languages, but I was disappointed to find that it does not work properly with Haitian Creole. Despite Haitian Creole being listed as a supported language. Works better with other major languages, but not reliable if you need Haitian Creole. I was really happy to find an instant translator that claimed to support voice translation for Haitian Creole. Unfortunately, it doesn’t work properly. The device struggles to recognize or translate Haitian Creole accurately. It’s a great idea, but not reliable yet for this language. Pocketalk’s website made it seem like it would work, but it doesn’t. I’ve returned three devices already because the voice translation for Haitian Creole not supported at all. Very disappointing and misleading.

Best purchase I’ve made in……. Forever. Just went in a 19 day adventure. Used it during my Mediterranean travels. (Including a cruise) made lots of new friends/acquaintances. No language barriers. Used it for French, Spanish, Greek, Chinese & Dutch.

I live in London and bought this as I was going up north and don’t understand what they are saying up there. There’s no setting for Geordie, Scouser or Glaswegian (Scottish). I had to draw pics of what I was looking for and the locals…well they just laughed. I’ll be sending this back once I’m out of this Scottish jail.
