Baatsin - Like a "Joyo's Greatest Hits" pedal
In the mid-2010's, I purchased a bunch of cheap Joyo drive pedals - sort of a gateway drug into later buying more expensive and higher-quality gear. I sold most of them later on, but the Baatsin is a uniquely high-value opportunity to get 8 of those circuits in a single pedal for around $50. And it sounds really good...for the most part. To me, the Joyo "clones" were never really that close to the original source material, other than maybe the Tubescreamer. What I appreciated about the Joyo pedals is that a lot of them did EXTREME things that the name-brand version would do. So it's best to think of the Baatsin as a collection of 8 different soft- and hard-clipping drive circuits that are actually quite different from one another and cover a ton of sonic territory. For reference, I'll give a very brief impression of the different mods (from actual use, not comparison to what they claim to be "cloning"): T. OD - If it's a "Timmy", the EQ is kind of broken. It's a very warm, rounded, soft-clipping low/medium gain overdrive with good output, but it's tough to open up the high end. SWEETY - I believe this was the Joyo Sweet Baby. Much brighter, and not very compressed. More gain/saturation on tap than I remembered. B. BOOST - A lot of people assumed this was an Xotic BB Preamp clone, but it's actually a very thick clean boost. Excellent with single coils. T.808 - A Tubescreamer circuit, similar to the Vintage Overdrive. Smooth upper end with a mid-range focus, used best to boost your signal while adding a little bit of gain/sustain. OVERDRIVE - I believe this was supposed to be a BOSS OD-1 or SD-1. I'm not fan of this one, as it has low output and absolutely no low end, but I could see it being okay with a darker setup. CRUNCHY - Based off a MI Audio Crunch Box, but tons of output. It's like British/Marshall type of distortion with medium gain and it cuts through nicely. RIOTER - Based off the Suhr Riot (I had the U.S. Dream briefly, but hated the enclosure of that run of Joyo pedals). Compared to the CRUNCHY setting, it has more gain and low-end presence. O.C. DRIVE - Joyo basically comes out and says this is the Ultimate Drive, which was their Fulltone OCD clone that sort of put Joyo on the map a decade ago. It does sound bad, but it has so much low end you can't dial out that its tough to use effectively. But it makes cheap/weak amps sound big, which I think was a lot of the original appeal. In terms of the pedal itself, it looks huge in pictures, but it's actually only slightly bigger than a BOSS compact pedal oriented sideways. The knobs actually had firm resistance to them, though some of the text on the selector knob did not line up exactly with the settings. The foot switch is the hard click kind - it's just okay, but probably isn't made to last 20 years. In addition to the indicator light, there is a dim LED orange glow around the frame of the pedal. It's kind of cool, but also largely pointless. There's a switch on the back to link that to the bypass switch or have it on all the time, I think. Even though it's a cheap, there's a ton of value here, and it's worth a look - especially if it goes on sale. I might even throw the Baatsin on my board for a bit, just because it can cover so many different tasks, and I only have room for one drive pedal.

More than just another green OD
Joyo's Baatsin OD features 8 modes of overdrive (technically 8 + clean boost) for a very affordable price point. There's a lot of top end on most of the modes which can cut through a mix. Definitely mellowed out with my ES-335 and my tele neck pickup, but with my bridge was a bit sharp/shrill. Lots of versatillity, BUT switching between modes produces great variance in the output volume, which limits its use in live settings. But on the whole I'm pretty happy with the breadth of tones and the sound quality.

BEST OD On The Market!
EVERY guitarist should have this pedal! Joyo has REALLY stepped up their game with THIS one. They crammed EIGHT of the most POPULAR current overdrives into one VERY cool, very WELL LIT box. This is THE new overdrive to beat. It has FAITHFUL reproductions of LOTS of classic ODs like the TubeScreamer, the OD-1, and even a "Marshall-in-a-box" (The "Crunchy" setting), but it also has clones of some of the newer, insanely expensive ODs too, like The Timmy, The Sweet Baby, The Suhr Riot, and even FullTone's extremely popular O.C.D. Drive! They even threw in a clean boost that sounds great. And the way the box uses it's lighting l.e.d.s might change the pedal world as we know it. Instead of using one traditional (aka boring) LED, Joyo decided to LINE the sides of the box with a cool, ambient lighting effect that looks REALLY cool, and lets you ACTUALLY see your pedalboard on a dark stage! Especially at this incredibly AFFORDABLE price, this pedal has something that EVERY guitarist will LOVE, from newbies who are searching for THEIR sound, to professional gigging guitarists who want the latest OD sounds on a budget. Buy one and try it, and see why EVERYONE is talking about these on ALL the guitar forums. - Christian Key

8 Overdrive in One Box - Awesome tones and Value
8 overdrives all in one pedal for $60 an exceptional value. 1. Tim O - more versatile than most Timmys. Gain goes from mild color OD to low distortion. Sweety - excellent range from low to mid OD and touch sensitive. I own the sweet baby OD and I think this one has a wider range. B. Boost - as the name implies a very transparent clean boost, fills out a clean sound nicely, or use for a lead solo. T808 - I'm not a tube screamer fan so this one did not appeal to me on its own, sounded good when used with the Joyo British, and AC Tone which I own. Overdrive1 -low headroom and have to max the gain to get the sound I liked. Like the T808 best used in conjunction with a dirty amp setting or other OD pedals. Crunchy - my favorite, awesome crunch with clarity, think 80s rock. Love this setting. Rioter - high gain thicker tone that sounds great at lower gain knob setting and higher volume. OC Drive - This one I thought I would not like based on some videos I viewed, but I love it. Its very versatile from a mild high gain all the way to fuzzy. Most of these OD will need your personal adjustment between the volume and gain knobs to get your sweet spot. The tone knob doesn't have a dramatic effect on most settings except the Riot and OC Drive. Did I mention the cool pedal case lights that can be adjusted to turn on/off ? I own 6 Joyo pedals and all have great construction/quality. In my case, I will use 6 of the 8 sounds regularly. For $60 that's $10 a piece, a steal. If you like ODs and want to keep it all in one box...give the Baatsin a try. I think you will find some great tones without spending a fortune.

Where's the bass?
Not an awful pedal, but certainly not a great one, other than the general value proposition. The big problems, IMO, are that 1. NONE of the pedal emulations have enough low end. I have an original Paul Cochrane Timmy an older TS808 and a Treble Booster and I've owned a Crunchbox. They all were capable of producing notably more bottom end than the Baatsin. 2. The emulations are not distinctly different enough. The first three are quite similar, the last 3 are quite similar. But mostly the lack of low end...bummer. The quality of the overdrive in most of the settings is quite good, IMO; they don't sound cheesy or overly fuzzy. It's a good value at near 50 bucks...but I've had enough experience with really good overdrive pedals to know that this one, as is won't work for me.

Last overdrive pedal you'll ever need!
This is the last overdrive you will ever need. It is 8 iconic OD pedals packed into one box. It's fully analog and true bypass. You get the Timmy, the sweet baby, a boost, the T808, OD1, a crunchy which I havent been able to place my finger on but has a very Marshall sound, a riot, and an OCD. The versatility of this pedal is something everyone needs on their pedalboard if they're looking for an overdrive. You get 8 fantastic ODs for the price of one. I own a temple audio pedal board and I appreciate they dont put the little feet on it and they come separately for you to put on. It made attaching it to my board a breeze without destroying the little feet. I would recommend this to anyone looking for a HUGE bang for the buck.

Baatsin: Great multi-distortion with a weird quirk
All of the distortions sound great, the build quality is excellent, and the LED is a nice touch. Now the weird part: The various distortion settings are not normalized for volume. Selecting T.OD may give a nice baseline volume, but turning the selector to Sweeney cuts the volume by 75%. Moving over to Crunch, the volume is 50% higher than T.OD was, all without touching the volume knob. I realize the different distortion settings are working with different gain circuits, but normalizing the volume between them shouldn't be that difficult.

8 distortion/overdrive circuits for under $50 is a DEAL
It’s great having 8 classic overdrive/distortion circuits in one pedal. They sound very close to the originals that I’ve played, and the pedal itself is well constructed, metal, and even has ambient lighting! I’ve used it for increased gain and harmonics on guitar before running it into an amp, on bass for a nice fuzz and even on drum machines for an extra crunchy/crispy sound. The only slight issue is that the different overdrive/distortion circuits are NOT gain matched. That means as you switch from one circuit type to the next there can be large differences in volume. Other than that, I am pleased with this pedal. It looks cool, is durable in its metal enclosure, sounds good, offers a wide range of tones, and I feel it’s a far better deal than similar but more expensive pedals like the JHS 9-way Bonsai ($249)

Versatile OD pedal. Exactly what I needed.
The only thing about this pedal that might be a put off is the lack of battery compartment. Oh well. Anyone playing live is going to use an adapter, anyway. I needed an all around overdrive pedal to go out and do some shows with a country band I'm planning to sub as lead in. But I also knew I'd use it in my studio, so for the price, even if I use it only on occasion it's well worth the purchase. It's got 8 types and you can tweak each one pretty nicely, in terms of shaping the tone and drive. Nothing too fancy here. Volume for each setting varies, so keep that in mind. The sound of the distortion I've used so far have been nice and tight without too much noise, aside from the slight buzz, mostly caused by the computer and other electronics around me. That's easy enough to deal with. I would say for the price, you can't lose. Up until now I've used one type of distortion from a processor for over 200 releases, mostly just tweaking the sound in pre and post to get whatever desired sound I needed. This pedal opens up a whole new word of options as I've now freed up my processor for effects, which brings me to the video here. This is the crunchy setting on the rhythm coupled with a ultra chorus and b.boost setting on lead and bass, coupled with vintage chorus. In saying all that, I'd say I'm happy with this pedal and I look forward to using it in many more songs.
