High School Textbook - Learn Those Facts !
I really wanted a readable history of New Mexico but other than the first chapter this was a jam packed fact fest with names and places and dates and numbers that quickly became really tedious. I read it on my Kindle so maybe maps weren't included but I kept going back to a print atlas to get an idea of all the counties and geographic relationships that were presented as common knowledge. There was a ton of name dropping in the text and so much data it was hard to know what to think. Thank goodness they crammed Matt Damon and Ashton Kutcher references into those last pages. Take it for what it is ... a very, very detailed recap of anything that's ever been recorded as happening in New Mexico up to 2012 and try to find the forest for the trees.

Quick Read History of Land of Enchantment
This is a well-written, very readable history of the Land of Encahntment. I read it in preparation for a visit. It does exhibit some political bias of the author. But I expect it to be useful for our visit.

New Mexico - a primer for first time visitors
An very good primer for the first time visitor to New Mexico, the state that many people in the US rarely give much thought to, yet it contains the remnants of the oldest civilization in North America and the oldest seat of government in the US.This book describing the Spanish/Mexican heritage, makes me look forward to my first visit of NM in the near future.
