A star performance
Paul Trembling is a special writer, a writer with a classic style. His words flow smoothly, his sentences move on without an unnecessary phrase. He is so easy to read that this quite long book is finished almost before we realise it. The plot hooks are beautifully placed. Droplets of information are released subtly and it's impossible not to read on, to find out what happened in that last row between Adi and Graham, what happened down by the canal, and what happened in so many other parts of the action which I won't mention for fear of spoiling the story. The plot is original and gripping, twisting and turning from the start. The characters are alive and they develop as more and more about them is revealed – the skin peeling off the onion. Graham is a very loveable person. He hero worships his friend Adi, and even as he starts to learn the truth about him, cares for him up to the end. Adi, the local legend, is shown as not really a hero. A strong man, but one who is revealed piece by piece as someone who cares only for himself. And Sam is not just an innocent youngster, but a man who has lived through serious events and become mature and wise. How can I do justice to this book? Let me simply say that I really enjoyed every page. Paul Trembling is a writer who deserves much wider recognition, and I do hope he gets it. Don't miss Local Legend – you'll be really glad you bought it.

4.5 stars...
Paul Trembling, author of “Local Poet” and “Local Artist” has recently written another book “Local Legend” all published by Lion Hudson Fiction, publishers of quality literature true to the Christian faith.Blurb - “It was him, Graham was sure of it. He might not have seen him for years, but no one forgets their oldest friend's face. But as much as he tries to get Adi Varney's attention through the window, the local football legend stares straight through him. Why had Adi ignored him and why had Graham seen him in the company of an American businessman, reputed to be involved with the Mafia?”I was very tempted by the premise and looked forward to reading this mystery thriller after seeing positive reviews. I liked how we got the back story to Adi in the early chapters and I really took to Graham, a slightly overweight, middle aged man with a bad heart who was totally realistic, natural and very endearing. As a local reporter he had that investigative nature and together with his grown son they get themselves embroiled in a dangerous and potentially fatal situation.Anyone who follows football knows that supporters have long memories and a hero to a club is never forgotten. But what happens when that same legend plans on letting his fans down. I found the story with Adi considerably believable and as a football supporter myself very interesting. That said, you don’t need to be ‘into’ football or sport to enjoy this story, it’s a mystery thriller that has a nice easy going storyline that’s intriguing, clean and a one I wanted to follow right through to the end.I’d happily read Paul’s other stories, I like his writing style and if you’re looking for a quick, easy and an engaging, entertaining mystery thriller that contains a fair amount of ‘clean’ action then I’d recommend this book and the author.4.5 stars

An intriguing story
This book is a “behind the scenes” story. The reader gets to look behind the scenes at the point where big business, criminal activities and sport meet on an international level. Graham Deeson is involved with the football club in his area and very much committed to it. Adi Varney is the best footballer the town has ever produced and, inevitably, is looked upon as a local legend. Back in the day, Adi and Graham were great pals. Their naturally formed friendship became cemented by a tragic childhood event. The years have passed and his success has led Adi to America. That’s where Graham thinks he is, until one day, at a wedding, he catches sight of him. Within minutes his old friend has disappeared from sight. Puzzled, Graham begins to make enquiries. As he delves further and further in this strange event, he finds himself becoming emmeshed in events he can’t control. This is a thoroughly intriguing tale, revealing what can lie behind our relationships and how, even people we thought we knew can take us by surprise. A great read.

A boys own story
Graham Deeson has carved out a nice niche as a journalist in his home town. He benefitted greatly from his close friendship with local football legend Adi Varney, who he often wrote about until Adi left to manage a US team. Attending a wedding, Deeson thinks he glimpses Adi through the bar room window. Tapping on the window, there isn't a glimmer of recognition from Adi, so Graham goes off in search of him...A boys own story with thrills and spills and twists and turns.I received a digital review copy from the publisher via NetGalley.
