Looks Good, Doesn't Work
This is exactly the look I wanted, but it just didn't work. The screws are not made for this item. They are the right length and width, but the heads sit too high, preventing closure of the item to which they are attached, and when inserted, the sides of the heads extend beyond the edges of the latch itself. Obviously, the screws and latch are not made to be compatible. I wanted this project to get done soon, so rather than return and find something elsewhere, I filed down the heads of the screws. I bought 2 of these latches (for 2 boxes), so I had to file down 8 screws. When done, they fit, however, in that process I had filed off the gold-colored coating, and the screws were now a darker metal underneath. They didn't match the gold-colored latch anymore. This looked REALLY WRONG, so I thought I'd try to antique the latches in order to make them match somewhat. [I found a U-Tube instructional video that suggested holding the metal object over a flame to cause a discoloration of the metal. Well, I tried this, using a stainless steel fork, and instead of causing a discoloration, the entire latch MELTED! In only about 20-30 seconds, it had melted, leaving some kind of permanent metal on the stainless steel fork I had used. I don't know what kind of metal melts THAT fast, but anyway, I was out half of one latch. It's just as well. Who wants to go to the trouble you would have with a DIY project when you believe the product you purchased was good-to-go as purchased?? I would DEFINITELY NOT recommend this product, unless you want to spend a lot of extra time adjusting a product that doesn't work, which SHOULD BE RIGHT in the first place. And then, what kind of metal is it that melts that easily?? It is just MORE cheap, overpriced crap from Guesswhere? I paid almost $13.00 for both the latches. A REAL RIPOFF!! Don't do it!! On top of that, the latch still will not stay closed. JUNK hardware. Buy something made in America.
