Great for fans of the podcast, good for people who aren't
This book is intended for physicians and their partners to help them develop a financial plan. It is written by a financial planner who works only with physicians and his wife who is a physician. It is primarily targeted at younger physicians, but it is applicable to any physician who wants to have a better understanding of their finances. It is designed as a workbook. If you start at the beginning of the book and follow along, completing the worksheets that are available in the online supplemental materials, you will have created a financial plan for yourself by the end of the book. Now, this is not a detailed guide to picking your own investments. It takes a more global approach, starting at asking questions about what matters most to you as a person to help you set reasonable financial goals, walks you through the various forms of insurance that you need, helps you organize your accounts, and explains the basics of estate planning. You may find you need to supplement any lack of understanding with some additional sources of information - this book is really going to teach you the fine details of a Trust, for instance - but if you complete all the recommended sheets and perform all the recommended steps, by the time you are done with this book you will have your financial life in order.

You won’t regret this investment!
I’m a 34 year old internist, and I have been listening to Ryan’s podcast from the start. His insights have informed nearly every life and financial decision my wife and I have made since that time. This book is a concise, practical, and relevant overview of the basics of personal finance that are foreign to many physicians, but their importance can’t be overstated. It also helps to kickstart conversations with your spouse/partner about these topics. I highly recommend this book and the Financial Residency Podcast, especially to trainees and new physicians. You won’t regret this small investment of time and money.

I highly recommend this book! I am currently one year away from becoming an attending physician and this book gave me the framework to develop a financial plan plan that is unique to my family's goals. Ryan explains financial concepts in a way that is easy to understand and digest. He gives you realistic, actionable items to develop a plan. Taylor's snippets from real life experience make those recommendations become personal. We are now on our way to financial freedom, thank you!

Put in the work and you will reap the benefits
Ryan is one of the few good guys in the finance world who truly tries to spread the knowledge and help people out. I love Ryan's Financial Residency podcast so naturally, I was curious about his book and I wanted to support his work.At first, I was taken aback by the little tasks the book asked me to do but the more I got into it, the more I could see Ryan's message -- planning your finances isn't really about the money at all. It's planning your money around the things that are important in life. Sure, it's a 138 pg book that you could breeze through in one sitting, but instead, sit down and write out your answers, do the tasks, and you will come out WAY AHEAD of most folks in medicine. I'm finally at the end of my training and will become an attending this year and I'm glad I came across Financial Residency podcast and the book. Whether you're a medical student or a seasoned attending, this book is worth a look because it will give you a birds eye view of your finances and much more.

A Good Starting Point
If you want a quick and easy, bite-sized way to approach your finances and future retirement plans, this is a good starting point. There are other books that are more in depth, but I recommend starting here to get your ducks in a row and your paperwork in order. The chapters are concise with overviews and materials to help you get the work done at the end of each one. This book can apply to anyone, not just those in the medical field.

Essential Personal Finance Education
This book is many things to personal finance. It is a short read, but long on actionable information. It is lighthearted with heavy topics. It makes normally hard topics to swallow simple to digest. It is an essential part of any students education and not just for its intended physician audience. Bravo Ryan and Taylor!
