Unusual characters, Good Story
The plot was suspenseful even if the characters weren’t always believable. I doubt there are many upperclass suburban housewives with a secretive past as a pole dancer, a big time partier and suspect in a murder case years earlier. Cassie disappears after the unexpected murder of an abusive guy she dated only to return to the scene 15 years later (with a new identity) because she’s afraid he might still be alive. Far-fetched but still interesting. Ken and Barbie were a good-looking, violent and Batsh.. Crazy couple who found pleasure from physically torturing people to death, which was horrific and ridiculous at the same time. Some of the graphic violence is overdone but the ending was a surprise and all the questions are finally answered. This book isn’t one of my favorites from Harlan Coben but the story keeps you engaged and the epilogue is good.

Every year another man goes missing…
Detective Broome sees a pattern among at least ten missing men. One guy was an exemplary family man. Broome just can’t let that case go — especially since the devastated wife is quite attractive.I wasn’t sure I’d like this book at first — too many characters, too many stories to follow. But Harlan Coben seduced me, as he always does, making connections, layering in personal dramas. Besides that, the plot offers two of the creepiest hired killers you’ll never hope to meet — Ken and Barbie — preppy, evangelical, and gleefully sadistic. The action is terrific, sometimes with surprising outcomes. Ironies abound. The love interests are complex and intriguing. I couldn’t wait for Broome to find the killer at the heart of the disappearances. And then, oddly enough, I rather liked the killer.A very interesting thriller, to say the least.

Secrets and more secrets.
Mr. Coben is very interested in the secrets that adults keep. He is also very interested in nostalgia, failed grieving, and the problems of modern marriage. Out of these seemingly mundane, every day problems, he weaves a satiric, tongue-in-cheek, and at the same time serious murder mystery. It’s an interesting combination of genres, well written, and to my liking, with a happy ending of sorts.

Mystery
Harlan Coban has been my favorite author since I first read his first novel. I've read almost all of them, including the Myron novels. This one didn't really catch my attention until it was almost over and I must admit the ending was very exciting and surprising. I just had a hard time getting right into the book. I still love Coban books and will continue reading them.

Coben does not disappoint. The ending might just be the highlight of ...
STAY CLOSE by Harlan Coben is a stand-along novel. In contrast with Coben's genre of thrillers this is a relatively simple story. Two young lives are affected by a single incident. Neither of the two people involved understood the impact the incident would have on their lives. For the last 17 years professional photographer, Ray Levine, let his body, his soul and his profession slide into the dumpster. On the other hand, the very bright and gorgeous nightclub stripper, Megan Pierce, AKA Cassie, cleaned up her act and during the next 17 years she settled into a suburban lifestyle as wife of a corporate lawyer, Dave Pierce, and became a dedicated soccer mom. Her past was never revealed or discussed. However, something seemed amiss in Ray's and Megan's lives until they were again thrown together through an untimely and tragic discovery. The plot, if there is one, generates little excitement but is given somewhat of a boost by Coben's formidable writing abilities that bait the reader into turning pages. I believe that none of the characters come close to being fully developed. Megan spends way more time dealing with her ailing mother-in-law than with her demanding teenagers. Her husband, Dave, seldom fits into the narrative. The Ken and Barbie couple who threaten the lives of the prime characters seemed more a figment of real assassins and are almost laughable. Known for lengthy and detailed endings, here, Coben does not disappoint. The ending might just be the highlight of the story. I am sorry to say that I can give, Stay Close, no more than a 3-star rating.

Damaged product, uninspired story
1st, the book I received appeared to have been run over by a small car. However, all the pages were legible and intact so I decided not to worry much about the condition.2nd, after reading the book, the condition it arrived in was the least of my complaints. This is my first time reading Harlan Coban and it may be my last. I found the story to be terribly slow and boring. I love a good slow burn, but that is not what this book provided. The characters were left partially developed and it felt like the author did not even care for them or their story. Everything fell flat. There was no suspense, no mystery, and the writing felt adolescent.I also had a weird feeling that the author has some issues with women. I can't quite put my finger on it, but I was left with the lingering thought that he may have some repressed issues with women or posseses an inability to understand them on a deeper level?Either way, I would not recommend this book.

The Publisher Needs A Kicking
This one of his books has some really negative reviews so I was part dreading it but I enjoyed it as much as I always like his stories. MY issue is a few crashing errors that I think the publishers need to hang their heads in shame over......these books aren't free and they need to sorely up their game.An attractive weathergirl is referred to as a hott, and I assume he meant hottie, fance was used and not fiance, someone wrapped (!!) their knuckles, as was used instead of at, spike-y and not spiky and then fled and not filed !! A bloody mess.THEN the cardinal sin for me was misspelling his own character's name at one point. He was Jordan all the way through and then all of a sudden he morphed into Jordon.I liked Megan and also her relationship with her mother-in-law was a touching one. My favourite character was Lorraine, though. A proper good egg, as we'd say here in the UK. The whole tale is very cleverly put together as you wonder how all these people are relating to which crime and each other. The last book of his I read a month or so back lost stars down to formatting mistakes, too. Time someone started to take some pride in what they're slinging out for public consumption.

Bring a bit of concentration
You can't go wrong with a Harlan Coben book. They say. And really, so do I. Mr Coben brings his own inimitable style of writing to bear here. But some have said that this book is a little less perfect than usual. The main problem seems to be initially getting into it. I can sort of understand that. We are introduced to the main players one at a time and certainly initially there's little, if anything that connects them that the reader can see. So off we go with the first, then you start another chapter and it's like starting a book afresh. See what I mean? But you need to give it a little time and a little concentration and sure enough the benefits come to those who wait.It is, as usual a stirring thriller and, again as usual you will be hard pressed to successfully guess the outcome. Characters are well developed and draw your interest. But look out for the nice couple who are, in effect, contract killers. They sport the nicknames Ken and Barbie, after the dolls. They nearly pinch the headlines! So there we are. A little persistence and concentration to start, but like a roller coaster, once you've rumbled up to the top....

Always manages to do it!
Kept me intrigued from beginning to end. I worked out who it might be just before it was revealed.Ken and Barbie left me wandering why, how, who and what set them on their path. I admire the lean style of writing, we get into the heads of so many protagonists. No sentence is not exactly where it should be. Marvellous
