They do exactly what you would expect, secure plates. In my experience they are easy to open and provide really good clamping force so there isn't any slippage but I dont drop the bar so I haven't tested them to that end. I bench, curl, clean and jerk, dead lift and squat using them and have not had any trouble with them. So for me they are great.

I own four sets of quick release collars for my home gym from three different companies. These are by far the poorest quality of all the brands I own. They simply do not clamp tight enough and will slide on your barbell. The cost savings for this product is not worth the poor function.  I recommend the Rouge HG collar out of the brands I own.

I ordered two pairs for my home gym (I have multiple bars). They're both perfect. These are much easier to get on and off than the spring type collars I'm used to. They go on and off really easy. Most importantly, they don't move.
