[The Ice Storm (Back Bay Books (Series))] [By: Moody, Rick] [April, 2002]
"**"
The author captures seventies American middle class life and delivers a monster
This is a very good novel. It is not a nostalgia run as described in the cover blurb. It is more satisfying than that. it creates time and place so the reader becomes present in the moment of the narration. In other words I lived this story. Not bad as I am not American, was never suckled on mom and apple pie and am not greatly interested in seventies America as a genre. This is a plus to the writer and hard to achieve and sustain but Mr Moody gets you in a grip and holds you throughout the length of the book. The story is universal, given how much we have all been deeply influenced by the mores and values of "Middle America". Highly recommended.
