Can you zero it, i.e. put a container on the scale, zero it then fill the container with whatever you want to weigh?

Yes place your container on the scale and press Tare it will zero the scale with your container.

Can the lid lay flat so that I can put a bowl or small plate on it? Or does the lid always stay at an angle?

The lid does lay flat I put larger objects on mine with no ptoblem at all. A small plate should be fine the bowl will need to be small to take account of the maximum weight the scales can manage.

My scale is not measuring correctly. I tried to calibrate by following your instructions but it is not working. Can you help?

If the scale is not measuring correctly, Please ensure that scale is placed on flat surface. Do the calibration and then use it to do weight.

Can you subtract weight? eg put the butter tub on the scales. zero it. then put the butter on your baked potatoes and see how much you have added!
