The Very Best of the Ventures

The Ventures Always Knew The Best Instrumentals To Record.
While there are many US surfing guitar bands from the 1960s, in The Ventures they are up against what may be the the finest in that genre. The debut single Walk Don't Run is a total classic, sounding as fresh as when it was released in 1960.Some of their follow ups were successful, for example Perfidia, however this CD also contains some excellent covers of Wipeout, Tequila, Sleep Walk, Pipeline, Hawaii Five-0 and Out Of Limits. While this is a little short at under 50 minutes, there's no doubting the quality of the 20 tracks, this is worth playing Summer or Winter and the cover's great too.

A surprisingly good compilation
There are dozens of Ventures compilations available - some comprising the original Dolton/Liberty recordings, others of the more recent re-makes [still worthwhile]. But this one of Sixties recordings, on Australian EMI mixes the "expected" original hits such as Walk Don't Run, Perfidia, Ram Bunk Shush & Hawaii Five-0 with some very desirable album-tracks. I like their version of Let's Go even better than the Routers' original for instance. Green Onions, Rebel Rouser, Out of Limits, Wipeout etc. Great instrumental "standards", all exceedingly well-done by the Ventures.
