TritonAudio FetHead Germanium

This version (Germanium) only works with 48V phantom power. The description accurately states this but two other variants, Regular and Transformer, both work at 24V OR 48V. Even though only the Regular states 24V compatibility the Transformer also works at 24V (contrary to documentation). The point is that the documented voltages do not match the actual working voltage. The company's own website is imprecise here. Reached out for exactly which versions actually operate at which voltages but no response. My use requires operation with 24V and the Germanium does not fit the bill. YMMV.

I wasn't able to review it because it was dead on arrival. It kills the signal completely and yes I am using it with phantom power - and it does nothing! Complete waste of time. This should've been tested when it was made and thrown in the waste bin at the manufacturing facility!!! What a huge disappointment.

I recently bought myself an XLR mixing deck, along with a Shure SM7B. While the mixing deck did have enough gain that you could hear the microphone reasonably well, it did result in more noise than I would have liked. Hence I bought this. My deck supported phantom power, and with the fethead I could use that to boost the mic even more and hence lower the noise floor. This worked well... for the first month or two. Now all of a sudden the sound is awful and there's a hiss at all times. I can confirm it's just the fethead, because if I unplug it and go back to my original setup with the higher gain, it sounds way better and the hiss is gone.

I have a RØDE PodMic with the RØDE AI-1 and while it's a pretty good setup, I noticed I was having to turn up the gain quite high. After doing some research, I decided to take a chance on the FetHead Germanium, which I have attached straight to the mic. What a difference it has made, the quality of the sound is so much richer and clearer without anywhere near the same amount of gain needed. I cannot speak for other setups but If you have something similar to mine, go for it, you will not regret it.
