As an Olympic-level cruise ship, RMS Titanic sank after having crashed into an iceberg on its maiden voyage in April 1912. As the largest passenger ship in the world at that time, RMS Titanic was built by Harland and Wolff Shipyard in Belfast on Ireland Island. On its maiden voyage, RMS Titanic was scheduled to sail from Southampton (England) to New York (USA) by way of Cherbourg-Octeville (France) and Queenstown (Ireland). At 11:40 pm (onboard time) on April 14, 1912, RMS Titanic collided with an iceberg. Two hours and forty minutes later, i.e. at 2: 20 am on April 15, the ship split into halves and sank into the Atlantic Ocean.
