What size trash can fits under this?  Is this not made to fit on top of a trash can?

The shredder seats nicely on the top, and for added stability the trash can seats nicely back into the stand.

Lets jump ahead  to a few of the negative responses from all you trolls

1) Its expensive, Yes, I have shopped around and found solutions at less half the price, but its reusable and likely to last longer than the shredder.
2) it only 20 gallons. Yes, gives me something a bit lighter to carry to the compost.
3) Bags are better. No comment.

Does this machine clog if you load it up with dry leaves

Accepted Answer

The machine processes the leaves by having them fall down into the spinning nylon strings, so if the hopper is packed to tightly, the leaves won't fall down.  I scoop leaves up with a rake and drop them into the hopper.  I let them fall through and then drop another load in.  If the leaves bog down a bit, you just have to jostle them a bit and they will fall through.  The hopper is pretty large and the strings process the leaves quickly, but you can't pack the leaves in.

can you use "standard" weed wacker line or do you have to pay for their replacement lines?

Per the instruction manual: This unit takes 0.09 inch trimmer line. Length 13.8 inches.

Here's the exact language from the instruction manual:
For optimum performance use only WORX branded replacement lines. Aftermarket monofilament lines having max diameter of 0.09 inch diameter maximum length of 13.8 inches long could be temporarily substituted. Use of thicker lines, lines made of substitute material, or lines greater than 13.8 inches long may result in permanent damage to your motor and / or injury and will void the manufacturer’s warranty. Immediately replace any worn parts of the spinner head.

How does this device work for shredding ivy?

The short answer is 'yes' if the ivy isn't woody at all.  If the ivy stem is green and not too thick it will work.  If the stem is thicker, or woody, then it wont work.  The stems will just get wrapped around the trimmer string.  The leaves aren't the problem, but the stem.
