Henna (Persian) - Med Brown (Chestnut), 4 oz (pack of 2)

This brand and color is exactly the same as my natural color, it's amazing! No hard dye lines. I only have a little bit of white hair, so the other chemical salon color roots products were overkill, bland, and severely damaging to my hair and scalp. Inversely, Henna is wonderful because it works with your real hair color, adding color and diversity to your strands, based on their own natural color, giving an overall natural healthy shiny look. As the hair grows out, there is no noticeable hard line, and it blends so nicely. This henna looks very natural and lasts way longer than chemicals for doing roots. With this, I can go 4-5 weeks without coloring and look fine. With chemicals, I had to redo roots every 2 weeks because the dramatic hard line looked awful. Henna fades a bit, which is good for the natural look. With henna powders, I add a few things. I use 1 spoon of instant coffee mixed in with the hot water and henna powder. I add cinnamon for smell and a spoon of fresh squeezed lime juice for potency and action. I let this brand mix sit for one hour sealed, then put it on my roots for one hour, then I leave it in my hair for 3-4 hours. Rinse out, no shampoo, using a tiny bit of conditioner at the ends to detangle and comb. Do not wash or rinse for two days and sleep with a black towel on your pillow. (A bit itchy and dusty, but worth the longer last!) Then resume shampoo and conditioner about twice a week. Henna hair products can be a bit dirty and crumbly, so there can be extra clean up needs during the process and for those first few days. This two pack lasts me 4-5 months; I do a half jar for roots once a month.

I've been coloring my hair for years. After going platinum for over a year, my hair was destroyed and I decided to take a break from chemicals. I grew it out for awhile and eventually got most of the fried bleached bits off. I was just going to let it grow for awhile with no color, but had more grey than I would like. (though less than I was expecting lol!) so I decided to give the henna a go. I did a lot of research on different brands since I had never used henna before and decided to go with Rainbow in medium brown. My hair is thick and coarse and I used about half of one tub the first time I tried it. The powder had a light smell, kind of like tea. There are directions on the tub that I basically followed. I added coffee and a little apple cider vinegar. I covered it and let it sit in a bowl for a couple of hours. When I applied it, it smelled HORRIBLE! (though honestly, better than most chemical colors) I applied it to damp hair, covered my head with plastic wrap and left it on for about an hour and a half. I rinsed in the shower which I would recommend because it takes a lot of rinsing. My shower was a mess afterwards, but cleaned up easily. The smell lingered in my hair for a few days, (the dry powder "tea" smell, not wet poo smell). I got so many compliments on my color from my friends. Not mentioning until after what I had used. They just kept telling me how shiny and rich my color was, and I agree. I didn't color again until about 3 months later. The color wasn't as vivid as it was initially, but still looked acceptable. When I mentioned to my mother I was coloring my hair, she proclaimed that I probably didn't even need to, but with it being summer and swimming a lot over the past couple of months it definitely did. This time I applied it to dry hair, and noticed it did not go as far as when my hair was wet. I would absolutely recommend applying to damp hair. Overall I LOVE this product and will continue to use it in the future. Especially for how long it lasts and how far one tub goes.

I used the medium brown. I bought this because I have kidney disease and I didn’t want to burden my kidneys with extra chemicals to filter. Apparently you absorb a lot through your scalp! I was blonde so I was unsure of how henna would work out. There are a lot of differing opinions out there about whether you can do henna over blonde hair. It actually turned out considerably well, and softens the transition as my roots grow out, although it did fade a little faster than I expected. The color turned out beautifully at first, a deep dark brown (I let it sit 3-5 hours), and then after a month has faded to a light brown with subtle hints of blue. Photos attached. Overall I don’t hate the faded color, and I’m curious if it will not fade as much next time.

I don't give this product 5 stars without significant consideration. (Note: I make no money from this review.) If you have ANY allergies to hair dyes, buy THIS!!! I've tried at least 5 other products trying to minimize my allergies to hair color, but I always get very itchy or even develop scabbing due to dye ingredients...until this stuff. This hair color gave me zero reaction and incredibly good coverage. It's perfect. The box says it will last as long as 4 weeks-ish, but I don't care if I have to use it weekly because it doesn't stain my skin or my bathroom if it splatters a little. I rinse it off anything without having to worry about it. And it will last a long time because I barely used 1/5 of my jar. Honestly, I'm extremely impressed and pleased. I'll be buying this, and only this, henna-based hair color from now on.

Ok, the color was perfect. On point. The smell was very earthy, but nothing I wasn't expecting. The ease of use, in my opinion tskes some getting used to. It was VERY hard to rinse out and my hair was extremely coarse and tangly. So hard to run a comb through. It did however cover up grays and blend well. I will be using it again, the price was great for a non-toxic way to color my hair, but it will be a learn as you go type of experience.

As a 35 + year cosmetologist retired I can say this is the best hair color that I have used. It's no chemical. I was afraid it wouldn't last or hold color so I left it on for 3 hours. I'm mixed half of the jar of powder of the medium brown two tablespoons of olive oil because my hair is dry and coffee hot to consistency of a Jello that is half done. I did miss some powder in the bottom and added more hot coffee later to get the ends of my hair. That's all I put on it covered with a shower cap and then with a turbie Twist towel, tightly wrapped, 3 hours rinsed for 15 minutes lukewarm water not hot , used Wen shampoo, not irritating, and if you have a horse shampoo don't use it, just use water until your water is clear. Then I blow dried to set the color in and here it is. I love it. It will be deeper the second time. I don't believe I will ever use anything else since I'm a vegan all natural. It smells like dehydrated spinach but that smell will go away. You've come a long way baby! Henna is now great. and one picture before and 2 after pictures. I had dark roots coming in. I had not colored my hair for at least a year or more. and I'm standing right by a light so in darker areas it does look darker. I will wait 6 weeks and do it again. Really easy if you have a baster and have your mixture thick enough to stay on your hair not to be runny. Don't mix it in a runny consistency. Keep it thick with a wiggly Jello consistency, not runny. Basted it on the ends but get all the roots first put the ends on top and go around the sides and back and top with your baster. over the ears As well. Spinach washes right out so you can use your baster for other things. Make sure you soak your baster and wash with Dawn dishwashing liquid. If your mixture is thick enough you will not have a mess and your hair will look beautiful. Really healthy. I also got some argan oil to add on top for more shine. Not here yet.

After 8 months of using this product I came to realize it was the cause of my burning scalp and hair loss, most likely the result of an allergy. After years of straight henna which only produces a bright red I decided I wanted a lighter color so I chose this product after reading the reviews. I did not put together for 8 months that my scalp burning and hair loss might be from this product. I tried everything to get it to stop but when I put 2 and 2 together and realized the burning and loss were only in the front where I had been using this to cover grays I knew I found the culprit. After 1 month of no use my scalp went back to normal a d hair loss stopped. Previously I had been using it about once a month. I highly recommend if you notice your scalp burning or hair fall is heavy you stop using this. I wish I figured it out sooner but I'm glad I did before I wound up bald in the front. I lost so much hair I had to stop cutting my bangs because of how thin my hair got. This might work for some but if your suspicious stop using it. I went back to pure red henna and I'm fine now, no burning. Hopefully my hair will start to grow back, but I'm glad it stopped falling out. I know rge company says it's all natural, no this or that but I'm skeptical. I have used pure lawsone and pure indigo and never had a problem and supposedly that was all that was in this medium chestnut mix but I am really doubting it.

I had been dying my hair by both boxed dyes and going to the salon and shelling out $100 to try to cover up my grays. A friend told me about Rainbow Henna and how she loves it. I figured, what do I have to lose? I ordered it, and applicator brushes, not realizing how thick the henna paste is. It's not like normal liquid dye where it's runny. In fact, it's pretty thick and can be applied via hand (using a glove of course to keep from staining your hands). I had read the recommendations to leave it in longer than the time listed on the bottle. So, after dinner, I lined my hairline and ears with petroleum jelly (to keep from staining) and had my husband (he's such a trooper) put the dye in my hair. I wrapped it up in a shower cap or dye cap, then I put on one of my wrap around cloth headbands to keep my hair from falling out of the bottom. I initially planned to only leave it in for 3 hours but my grays are stubborn and I decided to sleep with it in. Needless to say, I only made it for about 7 hours before I woke up in the middle of the night and rinsed it out and went back to bed. Maybe it was just me but my scalp was tender the first day when brushing it out, as if I had a sun burn, but by the end of the day it was fine. Even so, the ending result is gorgeous! I went with a color that was true to my natural color and it not only made my hair shiny but it turned those stubborn grays to a gorgeous bronze hue. I got compliments at work about how great my hair looked that day. Just a couple of things I want to point out. You're hair will smell for a few days after application. Because I used coffee with my dye, my head smells like a mix between grass and coffee. Not gag worthy but not the most appealing smell. So definitely don't dye your hair before a date. The mixture I used (because I have short hair) 1/2 the container 1 c. strong coffee 1 Tbsp. olive oil 1 Tbsp. apple cider vinegar *Update* I've been using this dye for over a year now. My head is no longer tender the next morning when I wash it out.
