Great Omega 3 Book
This is an excellent in-depth book on the Omega 3 or Mediterranean diet. This is not a diet in the sense that is was designed to lose weight. Certainly, one could lose weight on this diet by reducing caloric intake, but it is first and foremost a diet of health. The premise of the diet is that we humans have managed to change our diet much faster than our bodies have been able to adjust. Perhaps, given enough time, our bodies would adjust to the "new" foods we eat. This book goes a long way to understanding just how we got to this position and how we can change our diet to avoid the unhealthy state we are in. The book explains why the Omega 3 fats are so important to health and backs up its claims with reference to research findings. I highly recommend the book as an excellent primer to the Omega 3 diet. It provides various recipes which I've found to be very good. It also provides charts of foods and their Omega 3 vs. Omega 6 content. I have implemented the diet and plan to begin reducing caloric intake now that I'm acclimated to it. This book, in combination with "Top 100 Omega-3 Recipes" by Doyle and Deane, also available from Amazon, provide you all you need to get going.

Yum, yum, yum...
My nutritionist recommended I purchase this book because my doctor and she decided I needed to eat a more healthy diet. Of course I did not look forward to the restrictions of a healthy diet, but I bought the book and am I ever glad I did!I feel better than I ever have! This diet is remarkable and not only that, the food is great! I have lost weight, toned up, watched my blood pressure go down, and all the while have been eating the best food of my life. The book explains the benefits of eating a balanced diet with plenty of Omega-3 fatty acids. It also provides some of the most tasty recipes found anywhere. I have had so much fun sharing this book with friends and loved ones. As a result, often times when I am over at a friend's house for dinner, I am treated with a great Omega Diet meal!If you want to be on a lifetime plan that will make you (and your taste buds) feel great, buy this book!

Really?
I was surprised that this book was copyrighted in 1998. It seems that we have just now caught up with what she knew back then about essential fatty acids. That part of the book is very good and I am glad that we have finally caught up with her on this.I haven't tried any of her recipes but I it seems that many of the recipes do not follow her traditional Greek way of cooking. I mean canola oil, for instance, certainly is not a part of traditional cooking anywhere. It is a relatively modern phenomena. She also uses white sugar and white flour in some of her recipes. Come on! These things were not part of the traditional Greek diet. And, really, do you think they used low-fat dairy products. Give us a break!

Not what I was hoping for, but ok.
I had been looking into the Blue Zones diet and fell in love with Crete. So I dug even further and wanted to find traditional eating, with old ways of eating. Everything I have read was that they ate a lot of greens, vegetables, fruits, rustic breads, goat/sheep dairy, grass feed meat occasionally, as well as fish. I was disappointed that in their 21 day menus meat was more than prominent, all but three or four dinner meals were meat dominant. Very common meals from all arenas of world foods. I was hoping it would have been more of Crete's . I have to question the non fat or low fat dairy items and so many other food suggestions, that seemed far from old healthy ways; canned tuna, tofu, rice noodles, soy sauce...Not saying these foods aren't healthy, but not what I was looking for. I truly wanted their menus from years ago, with their meal plans. If you haven't dug into this area than you might like this book.

Bought This Book for 20 People I Care About
In summer 2007 I weighed in at 206 pounds, was experiencing fatigue, high blood pressure, skin problems, etc., and was frankly scared about my health prospects. After three months of good fats and following the healthy eating guidelines described in this book, I weighed 168 pounds, had normal blood pressure, no skin problems, and felt healthier than I had in years.I have since given this book to numerous friends, and notably several of them have experienced dramatic health improvements as a result of following its' simple principles. One of my friends, for example, has been able to avoid being put on blood pressure medication and insulin as a result of adopting a Mediterranean lifestyle. Remarkable. I highly recommend this book.

The Omega Diet
This book is one in a million. The Author is a Dr. with the NIH and has captured all of the healthful foods we should be eating. Her research on Olive Oil is a real eye opener. Canola is good if you are not used to Olive Oil but her push is toward Olive Oil. I made the granola, delicioius, the dark greens, delicious. There is not one recipe in the book for the day to day cook that is not healthy and tasty. I recommend this book, full of info, to everyone. I have RA and myositis, and high cholesterol and eating this way has truly helped me on the path to good health. I too think this book is all you need.

Not another diet book
The Omega Diet book was loaned to me by someone else and it is so full of information that I bought my own copy. This isn't just a diet book. Nor is it just a cook book. It's a history, an explanation of scientific information and a nutrition handbook with an anthropological review thrown in for good measure. I found it enlightening and interesting. And the recipes aren't bad, either! Whether following the information will deliver health benefits is yet to be seen, but the book is a good resource.

The most important health book I have ever read
The Omega Diet gives a blueprint for good health. It is written in a light readable style suitable for the intelligent lay reader or the professional. It has excellent scientific references. Dr Simopoulos is one of America's most prominent and respected physicians. It is the most important health book that I have ever read, and I recommend it without reservation. I don't think that there would be an intelligent person who would not benefit from reading it. It explains the importance of the right combination of dietary fats and how an imbalance can contribute to obesity, asthma, arthritis, dementia and many other diseases.Dr Ben Balzer, family physician
