After Earth: United Ranger Corps Survival Manual
"After Earth: United Ranger Corps Survival Guide" is a wonderful look into the world of "After Earth". As someone who likes science fiction and fantasy films, I love books like this because it allows me to go deeper into the story, with more backstory on the characters and the settings.Rather than take the normal approach for art books, this one is unique because it is designed to be an artifact from the world of the film. It reads like a manual that would be given to cadets in the Ranger Corp. As such, the book is written to address the reader as though he/she was a citizen of Nova Prime. It's a fascinating approach, and one that definitely yields unique results. The manual goes in-depth on a variety of aspects of the movie: background on the Ursa and other creatures; the dangerous environments of Earth; and more about Ghosting. Also detailed is the process of training cadets. The single best section of the book relates to the many tools available to the Rangers - this includes the life suit, wing suit, and weapons (and you can see the quality work that went into designing these tools).Of course, the downside is that there is nothing about the actual making of the movie. No director, actors, or production references of any kind. So if you typically read books like this with the hopes of learning more about the filmmaking process, this guide would be one to skip.In short, this is a quality book that will allow those who enjoyed "After Earth" to explore the world beyond what is on screen.Table of Contents:- Introduction by Cypher Raige- A Brief History of Earth's Last Days- Surviving on Nova Prime- The Primus & The Savant- A History of the United Ranger Corps- Ranger Cadet Training- Ranger Uniform & Equipment- Mastering the Cutlass- The Way of the Ghost- The Skrel & The Ursa- Space Travel- Surviving Earth- Conclusion
