Well built flashlight
I'm a huge fan of the company that makes this flashlight and of their 200 lumen flashlight Techlite Lumen Master 200 Lumens High-Intensity CREE XPG L.E.D. Tactical Flashlight, 3 Pack , so I figured I couldn't go wrong with their 500 lumen TA6. The TA6 is very well built, with a door knocker front that is uncomfortable just to place your hand over. I wouldn't want to be on the receiving end. It's well balanced in my hand and has a rubberized grip over a 3 - 4 " portion behind the switch where you place your hand. The switch never has failed to engage on mine and cycles from low, high, and flashing. I feel like this is rugged as hell, but I haven't dropped it or stuck anything with it.However, to my novice eye, it is only marginally brighter that their 200 lumen. There is a noticeable difference, but I was expecting more - like twice as bright. Then I did some reading about how the human eye perceives brightness and that to perceive a 200% increase in brightness, you really need a flashlight that's about 400% brighter. So, in order to have a flashlight that appears twice as bright as my awesome 200 lumen lights, I'd need an 800 lumen. The spread of the TA6 is similar to the 200 lumen. They both have a similar diameter when pointed against a wall 20 - 25 feet away. All in all, I like the light, but my need for more lumens seems never to end. Frankly, even a 5,000 lumen flashlight probably wouldn't satisfy me. I may have opted for their TA4 if I had to choose again TechLite TA4 1000-Lumen Master Flashlight, Sand Blasted Black .

but I like the added length it was easier to grab quickly ...
TechLite Tactical 6 AAA Cell LED Flashlight, 500 LumensProduct Number: 13079I am a Supervisor working for my States Department of Corrections, and have done so for 15 years. Monoprice sent me this flashlight and one more to review as I just moved to night shift. I had my staff use them both for a shift and give me feed back and we were all in complete agreement in the results..Pros: Brighter then any other “Compact” flashlight on the Unit, by FAR.. It has the three position switch, first click is medium bright, second click is full bright and third is strobe effect. Feels just as well made as name brand law enforcement gear at 2 to 3 times the price, and not as bright. This flashlight is longer then most compact lights, but I like the added length it was easier to grab quickly from my cargo pocket then my compact that I would have to dig for. Did I mention it was freaking bright? Even on first click setting it lit up a dorm if pointed to the ceiling which for Officer safety is paramount. I felt better when my staff were using this light over the small compacts they normally use.6 AAA batteries are a bit of a stretch, would love to see a rechargeable version or better yet a retrofit kit. But after 2 plus weeks of real use, and a lot of playing with them, my staff love new toys, still on first set of batteries and in our usage of them a set of alkaline batteries should be good for a minimum of a month which I feel is completely acceptable.Cons: The wrist strap that comes with it is like a small camera strap and the small loop cord broke second night. Honestly not a con in my book as it got in the way more then it really helped. The three position switch has to be cycled through all three modes to turn it off. Not a horrible con, but there are better ways to do it.Conclusion: This is a really bright, pretty darn well thought out light. I know of a few of my staff that have or are going to buy this light. The price is half what entry level name brands are going for. Buy it and you will not be disappointed.
