The paraben alternative that they use is "phenoxyethanol" which is used as a preservative to fight of bacteria that would cause the product to go bad. The other ingredient that's not a plant extract is "cetyl alcohol" which is an alcohol derived from fats like coconut oil or palm oil to help the oils and waters in the conditioner mix when they normally would separate.
