Product Description BEHRITONE C5A and C50A full-range reference studio monitors let you hear what your mixes will sound like on real-world systems such as car stereos, computers, televisions, iPod stations and other bass-challenged systems. Each 6.5" cube contains its own dedicated 30-Watt Class-D power amp and a specially designed 5-1/4" full-range speaker for crystal-clear audio reproduction. Both models accept balanced XLR and 1/4" TRS, as well as unbalanced RCA connections, and are magnetically shielded so they won't disrupt your computer video monitors. Beauty is More Than Just Skin-Deep. BEHRITONE loudspeakers are our homage to a now-defunct company and their legendary 5C loudspeakers, which literally shook up the recording industry in the 1970s and '80s. The original versions were passive little vinyl-clad, particle board cubes that recording engineers soon came to love. The C50A features a high-gloss piano lacquer finish, while the C5A sports a classic wood-grain laminate, allowing either model to fit into virtually any studio décor. Both are constructed of precision-milled, high-rigidity MDF for extremely low-resonance performance. A neoprene pad is included for superior acoustic isolation when the speakers are placed on a desktop, or the enclosures can be mounted on mic stands via the built-in 5/8" adapters. Discover what world-class studio and mastering engineers have known for decades - the only way to get the TRUTH about your mix is to hear it through these pint-sized beauties. BEHRITONE C5A or C50A active studio monitors are the perfect complement to your current monitoring system. Box Contains Behringer Behritone C50A

Very credible mixcube clone
Behringer's business model is simple: 80% of the performance for 50% of the price. Once again they have done it here with their tribute/rip off of the Avantone Mixcube. The purpose of this grot box is to hit your ears with nothing but mid-range frequency so that when mixing you can adjust the soundstage in mono and boost or cut lo and hi frequencies an octave away from your main speakers. This gives improved clarity and punch to your mix and ensures it translates well to "sub-optimal" sound systems. The intentionally awful sound gets some getting used to but this is a really useful tool for audio production. Sound on Sound declared the Mixcube superior but admitted the Behritone is still excellent value for money, plus there is no PSU the size of a breeze block.

Full review of this product when the other one arrives!
Please be aware that this is a SINGLE monitor and not a pair as all four product images depict.I had my suspicions that for this price it was going to be a single (as Amazon were a 20%+ discount on every other place), but given there was a listing for a used monitor at 60% of this price I thought it was possible that it could have been a pair.Anyway, not to labour the point but this is one, single, not a pair, solitary, solo, mono monitor, which I will provide a proper review for once the other one (I have just ordered) arrives.Re-reading the product description it does use monitor and not the plaural, but even so a picture speaks 1000 words so please Amazon, just pop up a picture of one monitor speaker rather than the pair and it will save the confusion.

Excellent
The Speakers are great, However the picture on Amazon showed a pair of speakers, which was what I assumed I would receive. I only received 1 and had to order and pay for a second speaker. Now I see that Amazon are advertizing a pair for the same price I paid for 1. I feel I have been cheated!!

Fantastic Grot Box!
Auratone blah blah Avatone Blah Blah. For checking my vocal levels on a mix, this is my go to unit. It has a bit more oomph (technical term that)in the low end which more accurately represents modern listening systems such as you will get on iPod docks etc. My mixes translate better with this than the more expensive aura /avatone devices. What more can i say...BARGAIN!

Great tool for mixing
I use a pair of Tannoy Reveals with a TS8 sub in a small studio. I'd considering buying bookshelf speakers to use with this setup to provide an alternative verdict on my mixes, but I was never really convinced they were worth it. After hearing rave reviews about the Avantone and Behritone speakers I decided to go for a single Behritone and see if it lived up to the hype.Well, after spending a day playing around with it I've completely fallen in love with it. It does a great job of brutally exposing the flaws in a mix (mostly the mid-range) by painting an unforgiving picture. If your mix is too muddy or lacking in bass it'll tell you bluntly. It encourages you to mix in a manner that can accommodate a greater range of listening environments.I actually don't know how I could mix without one of these now, it's sped up my workflow already as I can achieve a desired sound much quicker than normal. Great buy.

uber ultra useful home studio tool
I use the mono speaker as part of my home studio setup. Guru Mike Senior recommended the idea in his fantastic book, so I thought I'd give it a try.The Behritone is limited to mid range tones, which makes it sound, well, awful really lol. But the point is to help mix the mid range instruments in your recording projects. If you can separate, equalise and hear the ones you want on this heavy little box, its work is done!I use this in a 1,2,3 monitor system. It's v simple but effective:Add a cheapo 3-way audio selector switch. I connected the mono Behritone on 1, a stereo pair of Samson 4As on 2, and a cheap set of Dell PC speakers with sub on 3. This gives me instant switching between very different systems, to compare my mix. It works really well. The Beritone is a wee bit pricey. My main monitors cost less for the pair. But so so useful. I turn to it for all guitar and vocal mixing, even rock drums and bass too sometimes. Magic results on multiple guitar layers! Once I can hear what I want, I quickly switch to the main monitors and wow, there it is, a pretty decent first draft. Saves time for sure. The cheap PC speakers are great for 'real world' checking, especially averting bass booming from typical subs. The Behritone is well worth it as an affordable Auratone substitute for us budget knob twiddlers! You might wonder what you did without it...
