Tournament No.5 Staunton Chess Set

It's basically a travel version of the Staunton Tournament 5 Board and Pieces for under $80/us. Presently, that's a good deal and the set arrived flawless. Board lays flat and no gaps. Probably wouldn't notice it was a fold-up board at a glance. The board as a case is functional though I'll likely remove the fake felt plastic cutouts and insert memory foam, and perhaps replace the clasps and hinges with something more substantial. Good platform to work with for the money. Also note, as of the time of this writing, the Tournament 5 Pieces are difficult to find aside from buying this set. One small downside of most sets (still 5 stars), it is a 32 piece set, thus no "spare" queens. So, I'll wait for the Tourney 5 Pieces to come back in stock at a good price then buy another set of pieces and a non-fold version Tourney 5 board and have spares for both.

I really love the size and the detail chess figures, just what a i wanted

I have purchased several items from Yellow Mountain Imports, both through Amazon and through the Yellow Mountain website, and I've found them to be easy to work with. These chess sets are popular in Europe, where wood seems to be favored over plastic pieces and vinyl boards. As for this chess set, I am pleased with it. I like the chess board/box especially. The 2 inch squares are a good size, not too big and bulky, but easy to play on. The finish is fine, although I will probably apply a wood wax just to shine it up a bit. Some people don't like the green inserts that hold the chess pieces in place, but it doesn't bother me. You always have the option of removing the insert and replacing it with foam or felt. The pieces are well defined and easily identifiable, but not overly refined. They are designed for play, not for show, although I think that they are pleasant enough to look at. Fancier pieces are available at places like House of Staunton, but for a price. The set includes 32 pieces, although extra queens are available through Yellow Mountain (and Amazon) for a small fee. If this is a gift for someone, they would probably appreciate the extra queens. I am happy with the set and I would purchase it again and recommend it to others.

I've had this for about a year now and I'm really glad I purchased it. The pieces could be a little heavier but it's not too noticeably light. I think some have retrofitted metal washers at the base to give it more weight but this requires tracking down some additional materials (incl. felt) The board is a great size, and the proportion of pieces to square size is perfect for casual play (not sure if it's regulation exactly) but it's exactly what I wanted out of this set. It looks nice enough to keep out on display and stores easily in a convenient size. Not the most portable set but it can easily be moved around for occasional games outside the house.

I have tournament chess sets on vinyl, wooden and magnetic chess etc. Having several different sets I was still looking for better one. I'm not looking any more. This one, that I bought couple weeks ago is so great. I was looking for one crafted of wood in a box with, what is very important for anybody who plays chess, engraved edge coordinates. This chess set has it all. The big wooden box, side of 18.5", is made with a great precision. Truly, it is beautiful. Chess figures are of the right size; king 3.5" pawn 1.75", and they do not overcrowd the board, giving you great pleasure even looking at them. There was one thing required fixing though. The plastic forms holding figures were not glued but simply inserted in the box - couple drops of crazy glue have fixed that. That cannot change my opinion about this set. I'm taking a good care of it. This is truly a beautiful chess set. You will like it.

This is the third time to buy this product, amazon shipped fast, the quality of the product is very good, the shipping is not damaged, the quality control is also perfect, I hope the price can be lowered a little bit, this will be the best gift

The squares of board are not square!! It is a shame for a chess board.

the board is very nicely made. the pieces are not as fine as i anticipated; i am not sure if it is the type of wood used, or the quality of the carving but i thought it could have been better. that being said, i am satisifed.

There are obviously more IDIOTS out there than even I thought? I read all of the reviews before I made my purchase but might just as well have not wasted my time in doing so? Not a good board finish? Flimsy inside? Different shaped pieces? Cost £47 is this guy real? Discolouration of some pieces? Poor cardboard packaging, what? Let me give you a real and positive review about this product. I ordered it with the longest delivery date to avoid the postage, it was to arrive between the 3rd and 5th, of January, no problem as it was not a Christmas present. It arrived Christmas eve morning the 24th, December 2016 at 11am, perfect although not expected, so well done the supplier. Having read all of the previous reviews (at the time all 9 of them) I scrutinised the board before opening it to reveal the pieces, it was perfect, very good joints, hinges, surface, corners and catches etc. The pieces were identical in size, colour etc. The green cardboard box the set was in was strong and well presented, who cares about the box you through away as long as the item inside is OK and ours was perfect. For under £30 you can not go wrong, looking forward to our first game. Anybody looking for a chess set at a very reasonable price, do not hesitate to purchase this one. Ignore the IDIOTS they just like making a fuss over nothing in the hope of a full refund, just like some passengers on a cruise liner?

El detalle de las figuras es muy bueno al igual que la calidad del tablero

La scacchiera che mi é arrivata é molto bella e rispecchia le foto. Le pedine sono in legno e e ben rifinito come tutta la scacchiera. Io non sono un professionista ma gioco molto volentieri con questi scacchi con mia figlia.

A little more than I wanted to pay but seems to be worth it a nice size and the pieces are wood, have a nice feel, and weight. Quality seems to be good
