Taste and heat are perfect, and especially when ground in a pestle and mortar by hand.This is a superb value at the price offered on Amazon, and I will now not go elsewhere when I need the product. They kinda smell like farts. Not a joke. When you grind them up they generate a fart-like odor.

Today I learned that during the fermentation of white peppercorns a number of aromatic compounds are released, including 3-methylindole and 4-methylphenol, which are both largely responsible for how poop smells. If the water isn't changed frequently enough during fermentation, these compounds remain on the peppercorn. It doesn't affect the flavor at all, but it turns out it's difficult to eat something that smells strongly of manure.

This review is for white peppercorns. I see there are reviews lumped together here for those plus black peppercorns and for grinders.I would give zero stars if I could. And I wish I had read the negative reviews too. These peppercorns smell HORRIBLE. A cross between a chemical smell and manure with the manure smell dominant. I couldn’t even eat the food I had used it on. It was that disgusting. NOW reading those negative reviews that note the same smell, I see there is apparently an issue with the fermentation process that can cause this. Ugh!I got this product in s Lightning Deal. Must ne trying to get rid of it quicker. Don’t waste your money.

This pepper looked like a great product, when I seen it on Amazon Prime . When I got it, I was so upset to see that it had a small packet, of poison in it to prevent dampness ! The kind you see in shoe boxes ! I ended up not eating the pepper and throwing it right into my trash recycle bin ! Thanks, Vietnam for a , " Great " product ! What a waste of money ! I mean how can you put a, " Do not eat" packet in a food product ! Not happy !! I should have asked for my money back !😡🤬🤑

We used to use white ground pepper at the table, but really like the fresh ground pepper (when we compare the pre-ground to fresh ground in the black pepper type). My better half says there is a funny smell (like wet dog) to the white pepper corn (pre-ground), however I do not detect this. It does have an odor, but my nose does not find it is wet dog, nor does it bother me. The taste is flawless (for both of us) so try not to smell it-just eat it. Maybe that is why the whole pepper is not sold in stores. Yes, we will buy it again, but maybe we'll try a different seller just to see if the smell is the same.

First of all, I can't find white peppercorns--actual peppercorns--in grocery stores anymore, so thank you, Amazon.The flavor of this white pepper is subtle, almost as much scent as taste. I have been using it on everything from cottage cheese to steak. I've had white pepper before and thought, what's the big deal? Trust me. Big deal.
