I purchased this mainly for connecting older gaming consoles to my Smart TVs that lacked Y/Pb/Pr component video support. I tested this out on an Onn Smart TV from Walmart as well as another Smart TV by Toshiba using a PS2 Slim and a Nintendo Wii. Both worked well and even supported games that have a Progressive Scan feature. Gamecube games also worked with this device when I played them on my Wii. There are slight image issues during game play such as "jailbars" and the occasional "screen-tearing," but those are given expectations when mixing analog and digital signals to begin with; I still felt satisfied with the sharp and clear images thanks to this product. I also tested a Sega Saturn console since I had procured component cables for it, but sadly it wasn't perfect. The startup screen on the Saturn didn't appear at all and games that toggle between different video resolutions like Virtua Fighter 2 and Fighting Vipers can drop the display signal in-between gameplay. I also tried testing out PS1 games using Resident Evil 2 on the PS2 Slim. The PS1 logo shows up for a few seconds, but the video signal drops afterwards, rendering the game unplayable. Physically the device's Right Audio connector is fixed too close to the left of its hole as shown in the photo which made it awkward to connect the red audio cable through it, but the sound managed to work fine anyway. All and all this a good device for its cost and I will have fun using it to play my PS2 and Wii games : ) .

I purchased this converter after I trashed the HDMI connector on my old 400 disk Sony DVD player (approx 2005) and needed to connect it's component outputs to my TV HDMI inputs. It works fine and the picture looks almost as good as the early version HDMI, at least with my low res dvd's. The five RCA cables I used are a bit klunky but functional. Only problem... I did have to power cycle it once when my tv said "no input".

TLDR; •PS1 titles on the PS2 did not work •Settings on the PS2 must already be set to YPbPr (from RGB) or no picture will show •No Upscaling (like it mentions) is true •PS2 titles with 16:9 will output but TV needs to have picture sizing set properly as well ——— Works almost as intended; there is some slight jittering at the screen’s top parts, but it’s very minor (may very well be my component cable as well, as it is an original from the early-mid 2000’s). Only issue I must stress is that there is NO picture when hooking the PS2 up to the TV with this converter if the PS2 is set to RGB. If you can use another dongle to get the picture up with he default RGB picture setting, then switch it to YPbPr and connect THIS device, it will show. It does NOT support PS1 games on the PS2. Valkyrie Profile would not show a picture except for the main menu. Valkyrie Profile 2: Silmeria worked fine, but my TV settings took some finagling to fit its 16:9 option without looking weird. All-in-all, it does the minimal of what is needed for supporter titles on the PS2, but does not upscale or render PS1 games, at least not for what I experienced. Other RGB/AV composite devices to HDMI did work for both, but does not allow for the 16:9 setting on PS2 titles to fit properly.

I've been using this product for the past year. Oddly, but I suppose not surprising. The displayed image model was not the same on display that I purchased a year ago. While immediate notice is that the video image is noticeably degraded in the conversion. Not too happy about it, but I've dealt with it. I can play games & do what I needed it to do. Well now all of a year later & my screen crapped out on me. It was receiving no HDMI AT ALL. Not from direct HDMI or composite to HDMI. However no problem with VGA or DVI. A month of waiting to get screen back from an RMA & get back to work, I find that that this device is outputting video as it should, but I'm not getting any audio at all. Not from PS2, PS3, PSP or Xbox. My HDPVR is picking up the audio so I know it is there. Confirmed screen was working as should when connected with HDMI & composite converter. Audio & video was there. No problem. This has me thinking that if this converters' audio did crap out, that it's very possible it took out HDMI on my screen altogether while it was at it. I would have given more stars because it has worked. But damaging the HDMI on my screen alone is more than enough that this junk should be well into the negative. If money weren't an issue, I would have just bought a new TV altogether that does support the video options I need & use regularly. I would highly suggest that you do the same as well if you can.

Bought this so my mom's older DVD player would work with her TV that only had HDMI inputs. The adapter needs AC power, as most of them do, which is a bit of a drag but necessary. I wasn't there personally to deal with it but a friend of family said about half of my mom's DVDs wouldn't play. These are not personal DVDs but professionally produced movies and TV shows. The friend took the DVDs to his house and they worked perfectly. And these weren't Blu-Rays--he made sure they were DVDs as the Sony player used didn't play Blu-Rays. He assumed the problem was the DVD player though. I doubted that so I just recently took the DVD player to my house and used an RCA cable instead of this HDMI converter. Every DVD I tried worked perfectly. So, the result is that it's this converter. Not saying it couldn't be that it's not compatible with the DVD player, but if you're buying it to convert, then there's a chance it make not work. I returned the cable but am keeping the DVD player. I'm just not going to use it with an HDMI converter.

It works perfect

So, my old "tube" TV finally croaked, and all I have now are the new televisions, HD and flat screen and running internet and all that fancy stuff, and suddenly my faithful PS2 was no longer playable! Worst picture ever, obviously, making the games useless, because old tech and new tech just don't get along. Oddly, I still love my PS2, despite having had a PS3 for many years. Considering now a PS4, but, really, game play is still best on the PS2, and it's very disappointing that newer games on newer systems have seemed to have totally lost what made games fun to play. NFSMW, for example, or even WRC or HalfLife or just so many of the old games had such "playable" value to them. The driving, the shooting, the way the worlds were constructed -- I don't know, it's like the newer games on newer systems, although looking far better, don't play as well as older games in terms of just being enjoyable for gaming, and especially for the repeat gaming factor. I've bought and played all of the "best" PS3 games, and none of them (except for GTA5) are as fun as old PS2 treasures. I really wish new game makers would play PS2 games and realize the fun of them. I mean, no NFS title has been worthy anything, at all, with overly structured and restrictive game play, poor driving feel, and none of what made NFSMW a fantastic game to play. How can they have such better technology now, but lose what made games great??? Based on the amount of other people also searching for how to connect a PS2 to newer TV's, I know I'm certainly not alone in the love we all have for these older gaming systems -- so thank goodness for a product like this! A lot of internet searching finally led me to a double approach to get my PS2 looking as good as it could, and this was a combined approach, first switching to "component" cables instead of the composite ones that came with the PS2 (this means cables with five connections, instead of the old three, of just the L and R and Video) and then hooking those component cables to this box, which then puts out an HDMI signal, and an HDMI cord runs from this box, to my TV. So, component cables run from the PS2, to this box, and then this box connects to my TV via HDMI. Very simple. The old PS2 signal is upgraded by the component cables, and then further polished up a bit by the processing my TV does, of the HDMI signal coming into it. Make sure, of course, to switch the output settings on your PS2, changing them from "RGB" to the component setting (the only other setting that's there), otherwise none of this works. The component cable set up I used, bought here on Amazon, is this product: TNP PS3 Component AV Cable (6 Feet) Premium High Resolution HDTV Component RCA Audio Video Cable for Sony PlayStation 3 PS3 and PlayStation 2 PS2 Gaming Console [Playstation 3] The cable fits right into the PS2, then hooks to this fantastic device here, made by Portta, which is a brand I'd never heard of, but found reviews of it (mostly in other languages, but I was able to get the idea) online, on YT. The end result is that my PS2 signal is now awesome! It's still a PS2, of course, so it is limited to what it can do, but all of my games now play with ease, looking and sounding terrific on my "modern day" television. A perfect solution for a very important need! This box, plus the new cables, and let the games go on! Long live the PS2!!!! Highly recommend!!!

Ordered this product as i have an older xbox 360, which doesn't support HDMI cable. This helps in connecting it to my tv with HDMI cable. It does not cause any significant lag so you can actually enjoy your games.

Este aparatito no tenia muchas esperanzas con él para ser sincero pero me sorprendió, sin duda volveré a comprar otras cosas de esta marca. Está bien construido el plastico y los conectores se miran resistentes, no se calienta absolutamente nada aun despues de horas de uso, no mete nada de delay o por lo menos yo no lo noté, no me afectó en nada. Y es pequeño y practico para pegar ya sea a la cámara o al tripié. Luego el funcionamiento 100% la señal de 1920x1080 60i la convertio a HDMI impecable, no le noté ni cambio de color ni menos resolución. Seguro hay algo de perdida, pero el ojo no la distingue. POR EL PRECIO NO CREO QUE HAYA NADA MEJOR
