Mara finally got her retribution on the two main people who made her life hell- Dr. Kells and Jude, along with the raper guy and Wayne. However, I feel like she could have gotten back at David Shaw and Lukumi also so I was a little disappointed about that. I was also disappointed that Noah wasn't in the book very much. I understand that they needed to be separated for the plot to come together, but since he is my favorite character, I hoped there would have been more scenes at the end including him. I felt like all of the loose ends were not tied up. The genetic memory chapters made sense near the end along with the connection between Mara's grandmother and Noah's mother. However, Stella just leaves and we don't know what happens with her. We don't know how Mara confronts her parents about what they did to her. We also don't know her plans about the future- it mentioned her going to college, but will she talk to her parents first? Will she even tell them the truth? What's next for her?My MAIN issue is with the ending. I've been thinking about it for 4 hours and I have finally decided that I can accept it. I know that Mara and Noah are young for promising each other forever. I was mad at Mara at first because if she really loved Noah, she would have let him go and change the world. However, after I thought about it, Noah probably would die even without Mara. Throughout his whole life, he's been trying to kill himself, but when he's with Mara, he doesn't feel that way. So I would rather him be happy and die with Mara than die alone and be miserable. I also got to thinking about a quote Noah said. He says that her "fortune teller" didn't say when he was going to die with her. He may or MAY NOT die, but he wanted to spend his time with her. This gives me hope that he doesn't die with Mara. ALSO, her grandmother mentioned in the letter that her sacrifice may stop the cycle of the manifestation if it happens before Mara's manifestation. She indeed dies before G1821 manifests in Mara. Noah had to be the one to kill Mara, and HE DID when he injected her. She just happened to manifest and heal herself. If Noah killed Mara, doesn't that mean something? Like she won't be dangerous to him anymore? If she can heal Noah now, why is there such a concern with her killing him? After she manifested, she was stable, could heal, and had to think about killing someone to do it. Since she's aware that Noah is so susceptible to her power, wouldn't that make her less likely to kill him if she were even able to?These are just some of my afterthoughts about the ending. I'm going to believe that either she is still able to kill him, and is careful about it, or that she can't kill him anymore since she manifested.Why was the epilogue right after the sex scene?! Really? I need more Noah!!Some things I did enjoy about the book:I liked how the reunion between Noah and Mara were in there different point of views. I loved being inside his head for a little while. I also LOVED that the sex scene was in both points of view. Chapter 73 = amazing. I also liked that the genetic memory chapters made a lot more sense in this book- I liked the idea of a back story. I enjoyed the Lord of the Rings, Hunger Games, and Harry Potter references. I also LOVED that the story came full circle; I literally screamed when I read the last sentence. I was originally confused in the first book when she said Mara Dyer was not her name, but now it all makes sense. It's cool to think that Mara isn't actually Mara and Noah isn't actually Noah. I don't really want to know her real name though because she will always be Mara to me. I just think it's interesting that she used her grandmother's name though.OVERALL, I thought this was a great book. There were some things I thought Michelle Hodkin could have cleaned up better, but I realize that they weren't that important to the story. Since the last page emphasized the story Mara was writing was a love story, I think the most important part is that Mara ended up with Noah- even though they went through hell together, they still loved each other and they made each other better people. I think Michelle Hodkin wants you to believe that they end up happy together for a long time, but whether or not Noah dies in the end remains a mystery. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ 4.0 out of 5 stars VERY GOOD!--Rec'd Binge Reading Trilogy tho. *by J***. on Reviewed in the United States on December 12, 2014* The long awaited conclusion to the Mara Dyer trilogy has arrived! Granted, my wait wasn't anywhere near as long as the first fans, but it was still pretty long! Michelle Hodkin brings a conclusion to the trilogy with The Retribution of Mara Dyer. And I can't help but feel like I should've started the series a bit later, so I could binge read it, because let me tell you, I forgot quite a bit! I mean I remembered some details, but there was a lot I couldn't remember. Some detailed details that I really wasn't able to grasp or put together. I still enjoyed this one, but of course, I was still left with a few questions too!Mara wakes up in Dr. Kells' hands and is under some pretty heavy drugs, so everything is sort of hazy for a chapter or so. The one factor that remains clear to her is that Noah is not with her. Kells says he's dead, but Mara doesn't believe her. She would know, she would feel it, if he were dead. But he is missing...for quite a long time too!Mara gets some help from an unlikely resource and is able to escape her prison with Jamie and Stella as well. They try to figure out what was done to them, but that's a bigger mystery then they are ready to solve. All Mara wants to do though, is find Noah.And so begins quite the adventure. There's quite the real life kind of danger going on this one. Enemies that you can't always see clearly. There were some pretty intense and even scary moments in this one! It was quite the thriller! I loved it!What I struggled with, besides not being able to remember much of the previous books--this is what happens when you constantly read soooo much all the time!--was trying to understand Mara and her friends' powers. They all have abilities and there is some background to them, but I couldn't quite understand it. There are still some chapters from a previous Mara in this one as well and it ties itself into our Mara's story. But there's that "prophecy" we learned of awhile back that concerns Mara and Noah and I think it was that and its origins and the whole where did these powers come from part that confused me. Add in the doctors and their studying everything kind of made it more complicated for me, because I have never been a friend of science! I was able to garner some idea of what happened, but it's vague.The other part that I didn't quite enjoy, was the lack of Noah. Noah doesn't show up until the last 1/4 of the book. But naturally, once he's there, things were very interesting!I feel like there was still an issue or two left unsaid. I get the open ending type thing--for the very last lines do tie us back to the beginning and I LOVED that!--but there was one character that I was wondering about...and it was never said what happened to him and it kind of drove me nuts!This was a very intriguing and intense trilogy though! There's a lot to it and it was incredibly amazing! I loved it! I just wished I thought to binge read it instead of having a gap between books.
