The Animals Of Farthing Wood: Part 7 - New Dangers

After the fantastic second series of The Animals of Farthing Wood, both me and my sister were looking forward to the third season, but after watching this video and the other two that come after it, we both felt disappointed and both agreed that this was the weakest of TAOFW series.The idea is a good one(rats invading the park,owl looking for a mate,animals dissapearing from the reserve and the herd of white stags choosing their new leader )and if it had been handled in the right way it could have been as good as the second series, possibly even better ,but it is executed in a poor and disappointing way. The main problem is that many of the mature elements of the previous episodes are missing and it feels more infantile and cartoony which is not true to the series nature at all.Another problem is that the new characters are irritating, especially Hercle the new badger who is a very poor substitute for the old one ,and the rats are very weak villians. The blue foxes were very strong villains in series two and Scarface especially ,he looked and sounded really evil but Bully the rat leader is more of a comic villain which spoils the whole plot of the rats taking over the park as he lacks any presence or depth for you to really care or hope he gets defeated.Another troubling thing is the relationship between Weasel and Measley has changed drastically. In the second season they had a love/hate relationship which was funny to watch. But in this one Weasle's feelings for him have cooled and she blames him for everything that goes wrong as do their two children Fido and Cleo ,it ISN`T funny as it is meant to be, it got on my nerves no end and made Weasle and unlikable character.However, it is not entirely unwatchable .It does have some moving moments and the final video ends on a touching note (I am not going to give anything away) but just don/t expect it to be as good as series one and two because it isn`t.3 stars

It was announced before the series started that this would be the final installment of the animals of farthing wood. As a fan of both the books and tv series I was gutted! After watching the third and final series and seeing what a different writer to the show can do - i am glad it ended here! It went from a dramatic animation to an irritating cartoon in this series alone. Series 1 and 2 were amazing, the storyline, the music, the voice acting - but this really is its downfall. I can only imagine someone at CBBC didn't like the real life death of animals so changed it to make annoying animals suddenly become annomorphic! Probably one of the best books Colin Dann wrote - destroyed by this production. Such a shame!
