My First Bohnanza Card Game

I'm a huge fan of the original Bohnanza game. It was first introduced to me back in 2010 when I visited a friend in Chicagoland. The premise of the original game seems a little lame: plant as many bean fields and earn coins for harvesting them. But the game is very competitive and the strategy behind it is quite ingenious. As my boys were getting older, I wanted to introduce the game to them. They are 7 and 5, so I didn't know if they'd understand how to play the original. Well, lo and behold, there is a kid's version! Easier to play, though it will take younger players time to learn the nuances of the game. It can still be played by older players without feeling childish.

This truly is a great game. The rules start of simplified to teach children the basics of the game. Then essentially there are rules you can add back one at a time in order for the rules to mimic the regular Bohnanza game. This was a brilliant way to do it IMHO. The cards look to be compatible with the expansions as well. I would highly recommend this one!

My First Bohnanza is a great game for all ages of kids through adults to enjoy together. I playwith 3.5, 6, and 7.5 yr olds. 3.5 needs help but loves learning and getting coins. We have regular Bohnanza too so it's fun to teach em young!

Good game. The minimum age of 4 might be a little ambitious, though. (5 or 6 would probably be more appropriate.) Also, since it is version marketed specifically for kids, it seems like it would be nice to have actual coin tokens rather than using the backs of cards as coin tokens. (The kids seem to want to flip over the cards and look at them, which makes keeping track of which ones are coins and which ones are in play something that needs to be managed.) Of course, you could always use pennies or something instead, so it's pretty easy to supplement the game, and I understand wanting to keep the packaging and parts simple. But otherwise, a good introduction to the game, one that scaffolds well (with various additional advanced stages) to lead kids to the full game. I should also say that this simplified game is complex enough for adults to stay interested, as opposed to some of the games out there that are somewhat mind-numbing in that they are basically just rolling a die and moving tokens.

Not as different /easier for beginners didn’t feel necessary to buy since we have regular bohnanza

Great introduction to the bean game for kids! My boys are 5 and 7 and caught on quickly. I think it’ll help transition them to the adult version mire easily than just trying to teach them from scratch.

My grandchildren, ages 7 and 5 love the game. I would recommend it to anyone for an easy math game.
